Hospital training

Started a new job at a hospital last week. All was ok until Friday. I wasn't receiving the emails, so didn't know about the advice to wear 'swimwear' for training on Friday, so after changing into a hospital gown for that day's training was a bit shocked they didn't give me scrubs or something to wear under the gown for the training that day

Definitely start grievance procedures, OP - I expect HR could down with a laugh Hmm

A. It’ll be good for your learning to be able to fully empathise with your patients.

B. Nobody actually cares if they see their colleagues pants, vulva, skin or toes

C. If you didn’t want to Why didn’t you did say no?

When I mentioned I didn't have swimwear on under the gown when I had to remove it, they said I could just carry on, or have my contract terminated.

OP, I’m a senior HR manager in an NHS Trust.

Can you confirm whether you knew about the swimwear request the day before but chose not to take swimwear? What did you expect to happen?

You can raise your grievance, but if you ultimately need the care certificate and that was the only way to get it then there isn’t really much point.

doesthislookoddtoyou · 26/02/2018 14:32

But there was no need to be in my underwear. They could have given me scrubs to wear

Which would have been the same as wearing clothes, and the entire point of the exercise is that you are NOT wearing clothes, but a gown.

Suck it up buttercup. You don't sound suited to the job at all.

No, I didn't know the day before. But is it really acceptable for a female member of staff to be in just her bra and knickers in front of colleagues (including male members of staff), even for training purposes?

They absolutely did not threaten to terminate your contract Hmm

PeerieBreeks · 26/02/2018 14:35

So why did you say that you knew that day before in your first post about this?

Tbh that sounds more plausible. Especially as it was posted on Thursday and this happened on Friday..

TinaMena · 26/02/2018 14:37

It happened on Thursday

PeerieBreeks · 26/02/2018 14:39

Yeah, stop changing your story...

TinaMena · 26/02/2018 14:41

I got the day wrong in my opening post. It happened on Thursday. It still doesn't make what happened right

OP posts:
PeerieBreeks · 26/02/2018 14:42

And in your previous post

I'm all for training, but if someone is on training in a hospital, and they tell you you need to wear a swimming costume or shorts for the next day's training, and you don’t, they shouldn't make you participate in an undressed state for that training?

Isadora2007 · 26/02/2018 14:47

Oh get over yourself OP. You obviously need bigger pants if swimwear is much less “embarrassing” than underwear!
FWIW I did medical training as well back in the days before emails were common and we did it in a mixed class with our colleagues in our underwear. Not an issue for grown up medical setting colleagues surely?
Maybe the job isn’t suited to you. But yes you ARE being unreasonable. Whether you believe it or not.

doesthislookoddtoyou · 26/02/2018 14:48

Why didn't you put the GOWN ON?

MedicalEnigma · 26/02/2018 14:49

I don’t really have nderstand this. Did you ask for scrubs as an alternative to your underwear?

But in any case, as medical professionals all of you would be used to dealing with nudity wouldn’t you? So seeing a colleague in underwear wouldn’t bat an eyelid to anyone, I’d have thought?
