Kids anti social behaviour - social media

We have an issue that I am sure is common in many small towns, a few kids (11-16) causing trouble and certainly nothing new. It started as 'low' level, graffiti, trespass, swearing in the street and has slowly escalated into shop lifting and intimidation to minor assault (pushing). I am in no way minimising the actions of the kids, they do need to be dealt with and a police presence on the streets would go a long way to resolving the issue.

There are many social media sites and people are quick to report, police apparently dealing but nothing much seems to ever be done. But whilst it's great that people are warned the problem is it's making people feel really unsafe, modifying normal day to day behaviour and to an extent encouraging vigilantism. AIBU to think that social media has made us feel less safe and worry more?

Sadly there will always be kids out there who are little shits. With or without social media.

I thought the authorities were supposed to implementing zero tolerance after the suicide of Fiona Pilkington and death of her daugher Frankie. The poor women so desperate and ignored. She was willing to burn herself and her daugher to death. It doesn't bare thinking about what her life must have been like. Sadly they're just another statistic now.

They seem (according to FB posts) to get away with a lot, everyone knowing who they are and reporting it but nothing being done.

You're not in a rural south Lincolnshire town are you OP? That said town is to having the same issues. I put it down to close-mindedness and bored towns people getting a kick out of drama. Bit like an addiction and mob mentality rolled into one
