We have a fox that frequents our garden last few occasions hes been out in the day and DH has just seen him sunbathing on the patio. We are not rural but live about 50m away from the beach front along a promenade with a park quite close.

I put out bacon, sausage rolls and left over oven chips. Everything devoured except the chips!

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2018 14:10

YY we found early on vegetables were not acceptable. Grin

Not to upset the anti feeders but here is a hungry grateful squirrel I put bird feed out for this morning 😊

Yes we have squirrels dangling off the birdfeeders. I can't be too mad with them even though they are burying peanuts in the lawn. Grin

ohhereweareagain · 01/03/2018 15:39

the bird bath is frozen solid. i've noticed neighbours bird feeders are empty so i bought a huge bag of (proper) bird feed (as opposed to a bag of 'kp' nuts). warmed my heart to watch them in the old pecking order from magpies, pigeons, black birds, blue tits! my dd has peanut allergy but i doubt she will be going in the garden at the moment (moody 15 year old) Grin

ohhereweareagain · 01/03/2018 15:41

sparkling fwiw if you wanted to feed the foxes they LOVE a bit of cheese + (raw) eggs.....

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2018 15:46

It loved birthday cake, I got the medicine into it in birthday cake. Grin

HarrietKettle · 01/03/2018 15:48

Sparkling I remember about the birthday cake in my mangy fox thread!

Scrap didn't have a sweet tooth but adored cheese. Russel would go mad for a stake donut.

HarrietKettle · 01/03/2018 15:48

STALE donut!

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2018 15:49

They do seem to have a sweet tooth!

It was on DS2's actual birthday so he wasn't that impressed with perfectly decent cake being sacrificed.

HarrietKettle · 01/03/2018 15:50

Grin but what's a better on your birthday than sharing you cake with a fox?!

ohhereweareagain · 01/03/2018 15:52

scrap & russel Smile love that you named them

Nibblertron · 01/03/2018 15:53

It’s so cold here I have fed the foxes here for the past 2 nights. But apparently they didn’t get to the food last night before it froze solid 😕

HarrietKettle · 01/03/2018 15:54

They had children, I named them too Grin I would show pics but the foxes-eat-babies-and-kill-chicks-for-a-laugh would be up in arms!

Nikephorus · 01/03/2018 16:14

Would you feed tigers if they came into your garden?
Never feed a tiger. They don't stop with a Sunday roast or a sarnie, they'll eat everything in your home AND drink all the water out of the taps. Seriously! I've read that loads of times Grin

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2018 16:29

I would be overjoyed if tigers came into my garden. They could have anything hey wanted and YY all the water in the taps. Grin

Yeah foxes aren't at all dangerous

Sorry if this has already been posted.

They are a wild animal and feeding them isn't helpful, IMHO.

Plus food left out could attract rats etc as others say.

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2018 17:08

I think most of what you posted has already been posted Italiangreyhound.

Just brought donuts and a spare loaf with honey. Our lovely guests will feast well tonight.

IpreferFrieda · 01/03/2018 17:21

And daddies beer remember!!!

Tralalee · 01/03/2018 17:50

Surely giving foxes sugar is an absolutely shit idea?

HarrietKettle · 01/03/2018 17:58

They aren't supposed to have it all the time but they can and do have it- as I said they are scavengers so will consume most things. If you're trying to get medicine in them, which I and Sparkling have done, jam sandwiches or donuts or cake are a great idea because cats won't tend to eat what is meant for foxes. TBH in this harsh weather I'll give the foxes anything high calorie that they'll eat. The birds are getting cake too.

Tralalee · 01/03/2018 18:01

High calories are good but they haven't evolved eating refined sugar. I would have thought it would be terrible for them and rot their teeth but I'm no expert.

HarrietKettle · 01/03/2018 18:04

Sadly most urban foxes don't live long enough for bad teeth to become a problem.
