People are obsessed with weight

People (mostly men) find it necessary to comment on my weight a lot, even though I don't talk about my weight with others. Now, I wouldn't say I'm particularly 'fat', and admittedly I could do with losing a stone, however I find it shocking the amount of comments I've received about my weight.
'I don't usually like chubby women but you're ok'
'If you lost a bit of weight you'd be gorgeous'
'Your ass is huge'
'Your vagina is chubby' (yes, this was said in all seriousness)
To name just a few.

It's not just that I'm in denial, because as I said I know I could lose a bit however I'm not huge. But aibu to think that people seem absolutely obsessed with people's bodies and weight? Aibu to wonder why this is? And also wonder why people don't realise how offensive some comments can be?

Well, picking up from the FB element Medway - so many of us will comment on someone's picture: "Gorgeous!" "You look fantastic!" "Sooo pretty!" "Skinny Minnie!" etc. instead of "Have fun!" "Lovely pic" "You look so happy!"or something that isn't face-deep image based directly. A lot of us will focus on how attractive face or body the friend or family member looks. It's because we want to please them, even if they don't look that great. (why does it make us so pleased to get appearance based compliments if looks etc are only skin deep?) Does it contribute to making us (as a society) more used to commenting in general on people's physical appearance to a degree we wouldn't have in the past?

Some interesting replies, thank you. And the comment about weight being the first thing we look at when we are born, that's very true. I've never really thought about that before. It's a very good point though. Shame, really.

And the comments about needing to change who I hang out with, yes, I think I do don't I Sad

I'm been overweight most of my life and never had any negative comments. It sounds shit though, people should keep their thoughts to themselves. Some men think their opinion needs to be aired..

I can’t believe people are comparing stating the baby’s weight with fat shaming!

It’s because it’s one of the few ways in which babies vary. Plus tells you something about if it’s healthy or not.

I need to lose about 4 stone. My mother is the only one who comments but I’m very aware of it. It governs a lot of my life.

I'm a bit over weight and my sister will tell me I've put too much sugar in things/ask if I'm really going to eat that biscuit,eg., and actually groan when I do.

“I hope you sent Chubby Vagina man packing with "what a shame your dick's underweight" ringing in his ears.”
