To think people that dislike kids eat for free are mean

My brother is saying he boycotts anywhere where the kids eat for free as he feels like he's paying extra as an adult for other people's kids to eat for free.

Aibu to think he's just being mean?

I love kids eat free. It lets me know which restaurants to avoid!

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2018 08:52

I boycott them because I don't want to eat in a place full of kids. Grin

He's not being mean as such, it's just how he feels. And he's right.

PurpleDaisies · 25/02/2018 08:53

He’s probably right. People boycott places for all sorts of reasons. I don’t think he’s “mean”.

HRTpatch · 25/02/2018 08:53

Me too sparklingbrook

sevnuwt · 25/02/2018 08:54

This was about a hotel breakfast and there was no where else nearby, so he ate hummus and pitta in his room. Just seems miserable

His thinking is weird.

Does he also think he's paying for people who eat more than him at all-you-can-eat buffets?

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2018 08:56

That latest info makes it a bit odd. But Houmous and pitta for breakfast is even odder.

Presumably he had already paid for breakfast in the room price anyway?

Skarossinkplunger · 25/02/2018 08:57

We once walked out of a kids ear free place because despite having a whole area of the restaurant free they would only sit us in the middle of loads of tables with kids.

PurpleDaisies · 25/02/2018 08:57

Do you mean “mean” as in stingy or “mean” as in cruel for not wanting to subsidise other people’s children?

PurpleDaisies · 25/02/2018 08:58

But Houmous and pitta for breakfast is even odder.

That’s a standard breakfast for me.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 25/02/2018 08:59

Well he's not wrong! Those kinds of places are marketing those with kids though. I imagine a lot of people wouldn't go as they wouldn't want to be surrounded by children

EllieMe · 25/02/2018 08:59

I don't go to them either because there will be loads of kids there.

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2018 09:00

That's a standard lunch for me *PurpleDaisies with carrot sticks. I have never seen anyone eat Houmous and pitta for breakfast.
But I am a traditional coffee and toast type.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 25/02/2018 09:00

Well they are covering the cost of the child's food from their other takings so he is right. Not eating with your family and choosing to eat in your room is a bit odd though.

k2p2k2tog · 25/02/2018 09:01

The types of places which offer kids eat free or kids eat for £1 are your Bella Italia, Frankie and Bennies, Giraffe, Beefeater.

Not the sort of place I'd choose for a nice meal out as an adult dining with other adults, they are very much family places.

StickThatInYourPipe · 25/02/2018 09:01

I love houmous and pita, anytime of day meal that!

expatinscotland · 25/02/2018 09:02

I like it, too, as I know which places to avoid.

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2018 09:03

I wouldn't like to try Houmous for breakfast because of the garlic element more than anything. Grin

OddBoots · 25/02/2018 09:03

If it is the breakfast you can buy with a Travelodge it has always seemed pretty poor value unless you have children with you. Especially if he is someone who only wants a small breakfast.

Viviennemary · 25/02/2018 09:03

I avoid places where kids eat free. They will be noisy with food thrown round on the floor. Yuck.

ClaryFray · 25/02/2018 09:03

I, even with kids, avoid kids eat for free places. There so loud and not nice to eat in.

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2018 09:04

If there was nowhere else nearby I would have driven further afield I think.

Moonandstars84 · 25/02/2018 09:05

I agree with your brother. We stayed in a Premier Inn with a single relative. He paid the seem as we did for the room but his was really poky and our kids has a free breakfast too.
He wasn't bothered but I would understand if he was annoyed.

treaclesoda · 25/02/2018 09:05

If I have kids with me, then kids eat free places are great. If I am with adults then it's easy to avoid them. It's win win for all concerned surely? Adults with other adults can choose to go elsewhere, and the families are all subsidising each other.

ProfYaffle · 25/02/2018 09:07

Premier Inn breakfasts are only really good value if you have dc with you. In his shoes I would've gone to Wetherspoons for brekkie rather than pita and hummus in the room which does seem a bit miserable.
