To ask for recommendations for gluten free lasagne sheets that aren't complete bastards?

I've just been trying to make a lasagne.

Turns out that the Waitrose gluten free ones in my cupboard have to be pre-soaked in boiling water for either 3 or 12 minutes. Not sure why it's either/or Confused.

Then when you have fannied about doing that, they all stick together and some absolutely refuse to come apart so they are all in a stuck mess. So you get into a foul temper and decide to go out to a shop and buy something else rather than wrestle them for another ten minutes and want to hurl them out the window.

They are now in the bin.

Please can anyone recommend some gluten free lasagne sheets which
a) do not need pre-boiling
b) when cooked are lovely and soft as they are supposed to be, not all hard and dry still.

Very many thanks Smile

The butternut squash sheet substitutes?

confusedlittleone · 24/02/2018 14:27

Are you putting oil in when you pre boil?

ImListening · 24/02/2018 14:29

Sainsbury’s

Psychobabble123 · 24/02/2018 14:30

I slice a squash and roast it lightly in the oven after a sprinkle of sea salt and a drizzle of olive oil. Once cooked and cooled i use these instead of pasta sheets. Tastes lovely Smile

Butternut squash ones are nice. You can get precut ones from sainsburys.

Jiya1954 · 24/02/2018 14:34

I just use the Asda ones and stick them in as they are. They always seem to work. I think I've had the Morrisons ones too and they were OK, but Asda are better.

You probably don’t actually need to pre-soak them. Lots of lasagne sheets actually say that and it’s not necessary. Just make sure there’s enough liquid in your ragu and bake it for a long time.

Schroedingerscatagain · 24/02/2018 14:36

I use Sainsbury’s without pre-soaking quite happily

mycelialnetwork · 24/02/2018 14:38

I used Tesco ones last week which said to precook them. I didn't bother and it turned out fine.

DomesticAnarchist · 24/02/2018 14:40

Try just bunging they in as you would normally.

We use low protein lasagne sheets, which say the same thing, but using them as normal works fine.

Morrisons gluten free pasta is brilliant, they get the mix of rice to cornflour right so it is the texture of wheat pasta. I'm not sure about the precooking though.

Caterpillarx1 · 24/02/2018 14:46

Most pasta sheets say pre soak, I never do it and the lasagne comes out just fine

redcollargirl · 24/02/2018 14:46

I just use a mandolin to thinly slice butternut squash and put it into the lasagne layers raw and then cook. It taste delicious

GingerIvy · 24/02/2018 14:46

I've never precooked lasagne sheets prior to having to change to a GF diet. Have you tried it without precooking it?

FingerlingUnderling · 24/02/2018 14:51

Yes, make buckwheat pancakes and use them instead of pasta sheets. Yum.

SeaCabbage · 24/02/2018 14:55

All great recommendations and suggestions. thank you all. I am calmer now Smile. I shall check them out.

I hope never to pre-soak ever again! And am intrigued by the butternut squash slices. Another time though. I have had enough excitement today.

thank you all again.
