Don’t know how to upload images but this BBC video footage has upset me and is haunting. Can’t bear the mother waiting for her child to die,

Where is humanity?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/video_and_audio/headlines/43163173/syria-war-children-struggle-to-survive-in-eastern-ghouta

Is this mother being unreasonable? If not, then what can we do to stop this injustice and misery?

I saw that on the news. Just hideous.

Mishappening · 24/02/2018 11:13

We can't do anything - that's the trouble.

BexConnor · 24/02/2018 11:52

Yes we can. Donate to the appeals. If everyone on Mumsnet donated a couple of quid to aid that could help a lot of people. Spread the footage so others might do the same. Think about and/or pray for these people every day (Even if you think this is silly. It costs us nothing to not forget that the war is going on.)

I agree that we can't physically go over there and stop the war and remove the children from harm. But that doesn't mean we are powerless.

PonderWhy · 25/02/2018 10:26

I am happy to donate and have donated. Can't bear the thought of these children going without food because of a human inflicted catastrophe. Is there anything that can be done on a political level here? Is anything being done?

"Man's inhumanity to man" is one of the truest things ever written. How can people do this to each other? Money, power, oil, religion - none of it's worth this.

Except that sadly many powerful men people will never see that.

GlubGlubGlub · 25/02/2018 11:05

Can anyone post a link to the appeal please? Thank you

PonderWhy · 25/02/2018 23:41

I have linked some charities who are currently running appeals in Syria. I know some of these charities are in the news at the moment, but please please donate to Syria. I will find more links if anyone is not happy about donating to any of those that I have linked. Alternatively, if you google Syria appeal, a number of charities appear.

Donating now. Heartbreaking

SmurfOrTerf · 25/02/2018 23:46

And there is the problem

Save The Children

Oxfam

Unicef

you didn't link to MSF

but they too have the same problem with staff sexually abusing people

I wish I had the answer

but I don't

SmurfOrTerf · 25/02/2018 23:48

And the BBC should take a fucking good look at themselves

Julie8008 · 25/02/2018 23:51

Given what some of those charities have been up to I am not sure donating to them is a good idea.
We had a chance to intervene in Syria but we choose not to, this is the consequences of such inaction. I wish more people had thought through the consequences of doing nothing, this was entirely predictable and avoidable.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 25/02/2018 23:51

I don’t have much but have sent a donation. If everyone that reads this does that it won’t do much but it will make some difference for these people. There but by the grace of God go I.

AtSea1979 · 25/02/2018 23:53

A lot more people would donate if they believed their money would actually reach these people.
Where are these little girls when refugees come here?

PonderWhy · 25/02/2018 23:54

Just the thought of mothers hoping their children die so their suffering ends is excruciating. I cannot believe that we are watching the big boys bombing these families. It is beyond evil. For what gain? Power?

OP posts:
PonderWhy · 26/02/2018 00:07

I know a lot of the big charities are embroiled in allegations but please remember there will be good people in those organisations who work tirelessly to help those in need. I am not bothered which charity gets dinated to, as long as we can bring some sort of relief, albeit short term, to the misery the Syrians endure day in day out.

If anybody finds any neutral charity links, please feel free to post.

ReanimatedSGB · 26/02/2018 00:19

Bear in mind the likelihood that a lot of the current 'charities are full of abusers' scandal-mongering may have a lot to do with the fact that these charities are criticising the government.

This is not to say abusers who work for charities should get a free pass, or to deny that predators very often seek out the sort of jobs that a) feed their egos by signalling that they are 'wonderful' people and b) allow them access to a pool of potential victims who are widely percieved as unimportant, disposable, unlikely to be believed.

It's the timing of these 'scandals' and the way several different things (having sex, paying for sex, abuse of children and abuse of adults) are being lumped together as 'sex scandal' which ought to be a bit of a cause to... think about what you are being told.

OP posts:
TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 26/02/2018 00:29

Something like 1% of men are pedophiles. Somewhere around 7% are rapists. Even more say they would if they could do it with no consequences. More use sex workers and have sex with vulnerable women/men.

I'm willing to bet Oxfam, MSF and the like have similar proportions to every other organization. Fucking awful but not a reason to ignore Syria.

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 26/02/2018 00:47

It is the most painful thing to watch and not be able to stop the suffering.

This charity is one close to my heart, I came to know about them when they did a documentary on CH4, not sure if anyone rememebers it 'A and E in the warzone'. And Dr David Nott from Manchester gave up his job the NHS to travel to Syria to help the victims of the war. The situation was volatile and at one point they had to shift thier hospital into a underground bunker type of place just to avoid the constant shelling.

Every little helps and goes a long way. It's a shame these recent allegations on the other charities tarnishes the work of others.

I pray the innocent victims find some relief from this barrage of terror.

Thanks Sunset. Have donated - not bragging, just wanted to bump this post up.

BocolateChiscuits · 26/02/2018 06:27

Great charity recommendation sunset. Have also just donated.

starlightafar · 26/02/2018 06:51

This is tragic.
Donating doesn't work. The CEOs of companies trusted to use the money wisely are corrupt. Each take a share before enlisting help of others. There is a book called the Wisdom of Whores by a woman who worked for the WHO.
She describes this corruption perfectly. Those people (also men) care more over their new house and kids private education more than the starving.
Look at Haiti. MILLIONS were donated and the situation is exactly the same. Donating is absolutely pointless other than to make white people in privileged countries feel better about themselves.
All the 2 pound a month and 'feed the world' efforts are absolutely pointless.
And then you get the white men bastards from Oxfam raping underage girls in third world countries.

starlightafar · 26/02/2018 06:53

And it is disgusting that there is enough food and water to go around, but that the portions of those are so divided in a way that makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. Good on Nigel Farage making people resent and hate these people as 'economic migrants' instead of true people who would do anything for our opportunities. Bastard.

abeautifulmess · 26/02/2018 07:00

@ThButterflyOfTheStorms those percentages are terrifying! Where are they from?

EllieMe · 26/02/2018 07:26

I won't stop donating to charities because of the misbehaviour of a few individuals.
