Taking DP to OOH

When they're so busy already?

He's had a temp of 38.5 for 24 hrs. It barely comes down with calpol and ibuprofen (to 38ish and that's it).

He's got no appetite, is pale and whingy- but no other symptoms. I suspect ears are infected (again) but no idea really.

I'm hyper cautious because last year we had a 4 month run of ill health, during which he had 4 separate bouts of bacterial tonsillitis (it was just chronic tonsillitis, really by the end), bronchiolitis, hand foot and mouth, croup, 2 ear infections, 2 generic colds and a stomach bug- one after another, and some simultaneously. We ended up at A&E with frightening temps, rashes and awful symptoms (bloody stools?!) more times than I can count, because he red flagged for sepsis.

I'm a LP (although ExDP here this weekend) and can't take any more time off work (I almost lost my job last time I had to for his ill health)- so getting him well fast is absolute priority for me - for himself, yes, but also for our sake more broadly.

AIBU or overreacting using the OOH service during a winter crisis?

Please remember in future that you were right. Your gut told you something was wrong. Your know your child best.

As first time mum's everyone doubts themselves (and it doesn't get much better with more), but it's OK to trust your instincts.

I'm glad he's been seen and that he has some medicine. It's been a brutal winter with a lot of illness.

Does not surprise me (as I said DS has exactly the same).

Its is far better this way, simple doctors appointment, antibiotics job done. Even now at 5 he wont tell me his throat hurts with his symptoms until they look and sure enough tonsillitis! He never quite manages the 6-7 in a year though to get them removed

My dd has exactly the same illness. We've taken her to the doctors once a month since December as she has had one thing after another. When her temp rages for a couple of days I get anxious because I tried to be the chilled, laid back parent who would never 'waste' a gp's time with dd1. When she was 18 months she was hospitalised with bacterial tonsilitis and a chest infection. I'd taken her to the GP 7 days before and was told off for wasting time. So I just tried to treat her At home and convinced myself I was being a first time parent. She went scarily floppy and was difficult to rouse. At the hospital they couldn't understand why I'd waited. I'm never making that mistake again. Dd2 is 13 months. I'm happy to be told it's viral and just to keep an eye. This time it's bacterial and we gave antibiotics.
