Name changed and cannot go into great detail or I will out myself.

Been employed for 5 years doing a job I love with a really nice boss. Management got an agency in who have done a review of our department. Part of that review involved getting detailed plan of what we intend to do going forward.

Agency returned with our ideas but recommended they could do them better so my boss was made redundant.

I have the choice to stay, am encouraged to stay because without my boss they have no local knowlege. I feel they have all acted appallingly but cannot detail (would out me). Also once they have my local knowledge why will they need me anymore?

I do not need to work due to circumstances, I worked because I loved it.

I am torn as to what I do...

Time to look for a new job. Meanwhile, because knowledge is power, make yourself indispensable at your current one.

If you don't need to work I don't even see where the dilemma lies. Just do what you want to do - presumably, that means leave.

Sounds like the usual management consultant crap. Where I worked they came in and tried to apply their techniques and processes to an industry they didn't understand and which didn't work in the way they were used to. They messed up big time, but wouldn't admit it. Morale was so low and lots of people left - some without jobs to go to as it was so bad.

I would start looking for a new job straight away if you feel you do want to work and can find something you would enjoy as much.

"It is always easier to get a new job when you are already in employment. I would look for new jobs but not leave yet."

I'm not sure I agree with this. When you're working it can be difficult to take calls from potential new employers and find time to go to an interview. Being able to start immediately is also a big plus for many potential new employers. If OP doesn't need to work, might be easier to just leave, or stay for the month's payout and use that month to look for something else.

If you don't need to work for financial support it would be madness to do something you don't enjoy in my opinion. If you still love the job, stay there, if you're getting fed up, move to something you will love again.

Yes and no to being easier to get another job if your still in one. Yes, because employers prefer to employ someone who is visibly in employment now. No, re the practical issues of time off for interviews and dealing with calls.

Depends on your current working arrangements, hours etc.

But DHs department was the one that made and installed the goods the company sold! So they were left with all admin, managers etc and no productive workforce! They were forced to head hunt them all back in again! But the company went bust due to having had to pay fines for late completion of works - because the men who did that work had been laid off!

This actually made me laugh out loud. Literally. I mean, I'm so sorry for all the people who suffered but you couldn't make it up.

I knew of a charity who, when the agency came in, advised the directors to axe the entire fundraising department and the stupid fuckers actually did it.
