Lumpy, sour milk will I get sick?

Just got home from work and picked up some milk from the petrol station on the way home.. poured myself a glass and took a giant mouthful.

The milk I just bought was lumpy and sour as fuck. I've never tasted such rancid milk. I threw up in the kitchen sink (I think because of the taste) and when I'd cleaned up I emptied the milk down the sink. It came out of the bottle as one massive chunk 🤢🤢Envy.

Firstly- with no receipt (or actual milk left but the bottle still reeks) can I get a refund?

Secondly- will I get (more) sick from
This?! I can't afford to take time off work because of gone off milk :(

You can probably get a new bottle if you ask but without a receipt, I don't think they are obliged.

I don't think you will get sick if you heaved it all up.

Ugh it was so gross! I didn't even think to sniff it as it was just bought. It's not meant to go off until the 1st March either! Grim!!

Thanks I'll take it back tomorrow morning

Chances are it won't just be your bottle, they may have several complaints. Could have been left unrefrigerated or, the excuse I was told once when returning an off bottle, "the cows probably had a change in their feed".

Sandinplaces · 24/02/2018 02:26

@frasier wtf? That's such a weird thing to say hahah! Did you laugh at them?

Urgh. You need to report it asap. Obviously you can't do it now at this hour. Do it in the morning.
What else are they selling that's putrid. That milk can't have been stored correctly either that or Its out of date which they shouldn't be selling in any case. Have you checked the use by date.

LanguidLobster · 24/02/2018 02:28

That sounds grim Sand!

Luckily you didn't ingest much so should be ok.

Yes I'd go back with the empty carton and explain what happened.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/02/2018 02:29

Well who would think to sniff newly purchased milk. There's no worse smell than off milk. Stagnant water is another one. That's another thread, though

Sandinplaces · 24/02/2018 02:29

@Awwlookatmybabyspider it's cravendale and the use by date is 1/3/18... it's stored in the same fridge as the sandwiches and 'cold' meats 🤢Envy I really wish I'd smelt it before I took a massive mouthful! Btw I didn't pick it, the man behind the counter had to get it for me because the place was closed bar the night payment window..

Cravendale! That the cows want back.
They can have it back. Grin

frasier · 24/02/2018 02:32

I didn't laugh, but I looked it up and there is such a thing!

My milk was simply off though.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/02/2018 02:33

The fridge could be faulty and they might not be aware. Something is lacking somewhere for it to be curdled like that, especially if it's in date

Sandinplaces · 24/02/2018 02:33

@Awwlookatmybabyspider haha yes! They can have it back!!

I still feel sick but I think it's psychosomatic is that a thing?

OP posts:
frasier · 24/02/2018 02:41

Maybe. I'm feeling sick at the thought of you doing it.

Do you have any mints? That'll help.

LanguidLobster · 24/02/2018 02:42

Definitely! It's a visceral reaction to nasty lumpy sour milk which you should never have had to encounter

Slanetylor · 24/02/2018 02:44

Yep that's a thing. I'd say that's what you have. Milk does go off quickly but I'd say it's just probiotic type bacteria like lactobacillus. There wouldn't be anything dangerous in there. Disgusting though! I'm nearly vomiting at the thought of it! Hope you're ok!

Sandinplaces · 24/02/2018 02:55

Going to go and brush my teeth again! Bleugh
