DS selling clothes

I bought DS a ridiculously expensive fleece. He is 15.
He's worn it a couple of times and has now sold it on Depop. It has sold for £230.
Am I being unreasonable to ask for the money once he's sold it? He will spend the money on junk otherwise.
I'll buy him another (cheaper) fleece when he sees one he likes.

Fleece are for sheep.
Seems apt

I think in fairness you should split the difference. You kissed goodbye to £250 when you bought the thing in the first place. Lesson learnt & the teacher was your son. Lay down ground rules for future purchases. I have been taught the same lesson but luckily it only cost me the price of random ingredients - final product (slime) sold by my dd for a profit :)

By the time I was 15 I was on an allowance and had to buy all my own clothes that weren't school uniform. Maybe it's time to have that conversation with him.

I can grudgingly admire his initiative though cheeky as anything.

apart from a couple of suits for work, I have never spent three digits of £ on an item of clothing.

I think I would cry, and regret it...

I have the money for that, it just goes against the grain somehow.

Like another poster, this set off alarm bells in my head about drugs.

I don't think the price of the item is the key issue here.

The issue is that the child begged for a specific item, wore it twice and decided he was bored with it. That's a really unhealthy attitude, whether the item cost £250 or £2.50. It's wasteful, and shows the person doesn't respect their stuff.

It was a Supreme fleece.
The deal has been done and he seems to have made £50.
I get my money back. He keeps the difference, all happy.
He wanted the money to pay for a Reading festival ticket, nothing sinister.
