Last night I was eaten alive! I am covered in bites.
The sheets were clean, the bedroom is clean, we havent been away recently. Where the hell have they come from?! (And why am I so tasty)

Fyi, not everyone is reactive to the bites, so you can have two people in the same bug-infested bed but only one suffering. Please get someone from the council (if they have a pest control dept) to come and inspect and they can tell you if you have them or not. If you sleep in a different room you can spread them throughout the house and instead of treating your bedroom you'll need the whole house treated. Or they will tell you if you don't have them.

Library book?

If you started taking antibiotics a couple of days ago and you’re now covered in a rash then you might have a penicillin allergy. That’s how mine first presented itself. I would stop taking them and head to the doctor if I were you, you don’t want it to get worse.

Get a memory foam mattress. They are sterile to bed bugs, hence a lot of hotels now use them.

I had a rash after taking erythromycin. Could definitely be the antibiotics.

That sounds like rubbish sorry! Besides, bed bugs can live in the cracks in bedframes and head boards so the mattress type won't stop them

I got a red itchy rash a couple of days after finishing a course of amoxicillin a few months ago. My first thought was bedbugs / fleas!

You’re almost certainly reacting - is it amoxicillin? Apparently it’s quite common to react to it.

pisacake · 24/02/2018 17:25

burn the house down, it's the only option

Pob13 · 24/02/2018 17:30

It is amoxicillin. This is following a week of a different type of antibiotic (cant remember the name). So maybe my body is just freaking out.
We have hot washed all bedding and vacuumed and flipped the mattress. Will see what happens tonight.
Wont be able to see doc or get any professionals in until monday anyway.

Please be careful! If the reaction gets any worse please do get medical advice ASAP, I don’t want to be over dramatic but you should take possible allergic reactions very seriously.

Pob13 · 24/02/2018 18:48

Following the expert advice of MN I went and spoke to a pharmacist. He advised to continue with the amoxi but also take antihistamines. He said if it is an allergic reaction it will def get worse, but if it doesnt get worse it is probably something else.

Im almost hoping its a reaction, anything would be better than bugs!

Also, Im only on antibiotics for sinusitis, so if it does get worse tonight I wont take any more until I can see a doc.

Oh OP, I'm really hoping it's an allergic reaction! If it helps, we had a very very small bed bug infestation and there was plenty of evidence when I checked the corners of my sheets 😷 so hopefully you're ok.

Before I checked the bed, I'd been to the pharmacy about all these bites I kept coming up in. He said it looked like bed bug bites, but could also possibly have been scabies. I refer to this period of my life as 'the time things were so bad I wished I had scabies'.

Honestlyofficer · 24/02/2018 23:21

Same thing happened to me with amoxicillan. That and ulcers all over the inside of my mouth. V.V. Unpleasant!
