It's quite a while to be away from family and I have applied. I doubt it will go anywhere but if it did is it selfish to participate?

Its so set up. the only person who wins is the person they decide who wins.

If you read about it a bit more the camera person is working against you, sending pics of cctv you pass, and other helpful things needed if they are particularly struggling to trace you.

I can't watch it anymore drives me nuts, oh and remember you are pretty conspicuous having a camera person following you about everywhere.

ReinettePompadour · 23/02/2018 12:51

@dissapointedafternoon the hunters are given all the info about all the contacts. Its drip fed to them they need to decide whether to act on it or not. Sometimes its 'Bob gave a lift to Bill and dropped him down a country lane'. Its not worth speaking to Bob if Bill is then picked up by 'Derek who drives him to the train station' Derek is worth pursuing because he might know which train Bill got. The hunters get both sets of contact details and decide which person is worth speaking to.

Me and the DCs love Hunted. The last series was a bit too setup for me, but then if they all just camped in the middle of nowhere for 2 weeks it would be a bit boring. The bit at end when they are racing to the extraction point is a real shout at the tv moment.

I'll be one of your network of associates and I'm more than happy for the sexy Hunter to come round and question me.

bettytaghetti · 23/02/2018 12:53

Oh Reinette, that's totally ruined it for me!

ReinettePompadour · 23/02/2018 12:54

Sorry bettytaghetti

DGRossetti · 23/02/2018 12:55

Our DS mentioned last week he's thinking (I hope that wasn't code for "Dad, I've just been fired" Hmm

Never seen it (or heard of it until he mentioned it).

Interesting premise ...

Love51 · 23/02/2018 12:58

We were discussing it the other day, apparently you can't just bunk up in a friend's basement, as that wouldn't make good tv. I saw a bit of the first series and enjoyed it, but can't watch it now without being aware of the fourth wall. Don't come on mumsnet though if you go ahead with it, you might as well email the producers directly!

Champagneandthestars · 23/02/2018 13:58

DH has applied. I think he's a twat for wanting to do it but he truly thinks he's bear grills and I welcome anything that would make him realise he's not. I imagine that would happen very quickly if he actually got on the programme.

SandAndSea · 23/02/2018 14:01

I love the show but I also think it's too long to be away from a young child. You won't be able to call or Skype either.

SandAndSea · 23/02/2018 14:03

@Love51 - what's the fourth wall?

HarrietKettle · 23/02/2018 14:05

If you do it be prepared for the producers to absolutely manipulate everything into how they want the programme to go, and stage various dramatic 'near captures' to make good TV. It's really one of the most contrived shows out there (I know a couple of the runners from the last series, half of what goes on is totally scripted or staged)

Hidingtonothing · 23/02/2018 14:05

DH really wants to apply, he has a plan all worked out (similar to the MN network idea actually but not MN) and I think he'd do really well. He works away loads anyway so wouldn't be a major change for me and DC, 4 weeks off work might be the sticking point though Sad Good luck if you're selected OP, will keep the spare bed free in case you need it Smile

saladdays66 · 23/02/2018 14:29

@Love51 - what's the fourth wall?

I wondered that too!

CassandraCross · 23/02/2018 14:49

I tried to watch this show after seeing the Celebrity one which I enjoyed and thought quite funny but it made me so cross I had to give up. It is sold as them using the techniques utilised by law enforcement to track you, but they then broke every rule and law in the book. Even when hunting dangerous suspects Police and other agencies have to abide by the law of the land.

Also, it is so set up and obviously so by the fact you are trailed by a camera crew, it would be far more realistic if the participants were filming themselves. As for the other rules posters have detailed on here it just makes a mockery of the whole thing.

The number one hunter guy in the office is so obnoxious and downright nasty.

However, if you do get on it, OP, I wish you luck and look forward to your updates!

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 23/02/2018 19:28

Well the hunters will be reading this for starters if you get through so you can start throwing them off the scent with talk of your maiden aunt's oothoose in Dundee. Or is it a double bluff?

KarmaStar · 23/02/2018 19:34

Good luck!!if you get on,let us know and we can all help!!😊

Love51 · 23/02/2018 19:45

4th wall.
Imagine watching a play set in a room. The set has a wall at the back and one to each side. The fourth wall is not physically there, because you, the audience, have to be able to see the play. The actors pretend it is there (mostly, sometimes they 'break the fourth wall') On the telly that 'wall' is the camera. I may have abused the term slightly but what I meant was that I became hyper aware of the camera and the fact that what I was watching was heavily staged, and heavily produced, rather than being able to lose myself in the plot.

saladdays66 · 24/02/2018 00:25

That makes sense. Cheers.
