To think I will never have my own home!

I have been terrible with money since I left home. A lot of financial impulses have trashed my credit file. I have defaults that are dated to 2012!! I have 28 defaults and 20 closed accounts.

I became considerably more responsible when I became a mum and was able to budget quite well.

I have started paying off my debts with minimum payments and hoping to clear my debts in 18 months by snowball.

Now heres the kicker: I want to be able to get a mortgage in the next five years. (After I have a sizeable deposit) but, my credit file is ruined. I know the credit score is useless but all three of mine are Very Poor. One of the is 0.

I have contacted Stepchange and done there debt remedy but it says I can afford to make contractual monthly payments so can really help me.

Use a independent financial adviser to look at bad credit mortgages. We had issues with a previous landlord who was a twat and we ended up with 2 ccjs we didn't even know about! We managed to get a mortgage and they were only a year old. From research we did online 2-3 years seems to be the best amount of time to wait to get slightly better deals. I think Anything over 6 years is removed from your credit file so the ones from 2012 may come off this year?
Our mortgage is with a company called precise, we pay about £50 a month more than we would with a bank

There are lenders out there specifically for people with poor credit. But you may have to just wait a bit longer before buying.

Defaults only stay on your credit file for 6 years so if some date back to 2012, they will start dropping off soon which will help.
