To think there's something medically wrong?

I don't know if I'm just being overdramatic but since I got a fitbit 2 years ago I noticed how fast my heart races.

For background I'm 23 and healthy bmi and eat very healthily.

I decided it was just a thing and laughed it off until my GP picked up on it. I am on the pill so always get blood pressure checked and the past few times it's come back slightly high. He then took my BPM and noticed it's high.

My resting heart rate is between 80-100, I will always go over 100 BPM during the day at some point. At the weekend, I was sitting down, hadn't had any alcohol, and my BPM was 156. We then checked this by doing the test ourselves (DP and I) and it was accurate.

AIBU to think this is an issue or is it ok?
I'm an anxious person which is definitely a factor.

What did your doctor say? Was he worried about it?

Not wanting to provoke your anxiety, but it's certainly right at the top end of the range considered normal - you need to be following this up with your GP, particularly if your blood pressure is also high. It could be something relatively easily remedied (I think being anemic or having an overactive thyroid can be a cause of higher heart rate and blood pressure) or something you just need to keep an eye on.

I would go back to the GP. Your heart rate increasing to 156bpm whilst at rest is not normal. Ask for a 24 hr heart rate monitor. Good luck.

What did your GP say?

Notevilstepmother · 22/02/2018 12:30

It could be that anxiety is making it race, but it’s certainly worth checking.

POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia) can sometimes look similar to anxiety.

Might be worth asking your GP to do an active stand test to check.
