We have life insurance in case either one of us dies. Except right now, its invalid as DP hasn't completed the medical forms and tests he was supposed to. This is going back nearly five years since we took out the insurance, and it has just come to light. He has a medical condition which means he needs to have a blood test and medical and his GP will need to write a report. I know this because when we first got the mortgage, he started this process but didn't complete it. It was only when we reviewed out mortgaged that we decided again to get life insurance.

The other issue is he isn't compliant taking his medication , which will no doubt come out, and will affect our premiums.

The forms came from the insurance company a few months ago and I've asked him three times if she has completed them, he says he will. I know he won't, and he won't arrange the blood tests or go for the medical either. he'll just never get round to it.

There seems no point having it unless we are both properly covered. I have this conversation but it falls on deaf ears.

What should I do? Is there insurance you can get which doesn't rely on your partner providing medical information?

So he's happy to have you covered but not for you to have him covered, even when he's the one with the health condition?

Yep. I'm healthy and well, its him who will risks his health by not taking the medication. I have had this conversation many times. I can't understand why he won't sort it out yes I can he is a man child who can't take any responsibilty

Right now I would cancel it. It’s currently a waste of money as it’s invalid and won’t pay out if he were to die.

However I am also crap with forms like this DH always fills them out for me and then asks me to sign them.

When you apply for life insurance you have to answer the health & lifestyle questions before the policy can be put in place. If he's answered that he has a medical condition, the life insurance company request the GP's report and arrange the medical appointment if required.

I can't see how you can have the life insurance policy if he didn't do this 5 years ago, as the policy wouldn't have been accepted and put on risk without this being done.

So I'm thinking the policy you had from 5 years ago is fine, but if you are trying to take out a new policy then the GP report and medical will have to be done again. Don't cancel the old policy until he has done the required things for the new one.

We have been paying monthy and were before we completed the forms, so I may pursue this with them, we would never have been covered as he didn't complete the paperwork. I queried this, something jogged my memory and asked him to check and it was the case that they never had it. You would think they would write to us and advise that we are paying but don't have cover!
