Just that really .... I can feel it coming, "tight nose", phlegm building up....

Is there anything I can do? Or just let it run its course?

Ideas so far from DH and me so far:

  • lots of Vit C
  • bit of extra sleep
  • don't go to the gym...

Love not to have a humdinger - what do you do?

Zinc. I take a supplement that incidentally contains zinc, and haven't had a proper cold for well over a year. The last one I had was very mild and barely lasted 2 days - I bought one of those little multipacks of tissues and only used one packet.

JudasPrudy · 17/11/2018 22:13

@Howhot I don't take any special measures, just paracetamol if I have an unbearable headache. Getting out and about is best if you can, takes your mind off it.

Early night.Lemon in hot water, what is first defence ?

StoneofDestiny · 17/11/2018 22:20

Day and night nurse (best there is)
A hot chilli for food

Unsure72 · 17/11/2018 22:31

Echinacea honestly works wonders. I’ve been surrounded by coldy colleagues and have come through without so much as a sneeze!

OrangeSamphire · 17/11/2018 22:36

I used to go really downhill with colds and always end up with severe sore throat, aches pains and exhaustion. As a result of having glandular fever years ago I think.

But since I started taking elderberry syrup I can head colds off at the pass before they turn into anything. It’s changed my life.

Starlight345 · 17/11/2018 22:36

I haven’t heard if first defence but will be stocking up

tablelegs · 17/11/2018 23:16

Couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide in my ear and it's away within a day. I've no idea why it works but it really does.

Stillwishihadabs · 18/11/2018 08:48

Just googled first defence, I'm sorry but YUCK, I think I'd rather suffer tbh. Plenty of sleep and vitamins do the trick here

ClashCityRocker · 18/11/2018 09:01

I put on the Dressing Gown of Doom and huddle on the sofa, occasionally making soft mewing noises and sniffling, whilst gazing into the middle distance and reminiscing about all the times my nose wasn't stuffed up and I didn't appreciate it.

Once I've got through that, lots of hot baths, vit c and spicy food. Early nights too.

Santaclarita · 18/11/2018 09:11

I get ill really badly and often, even with just a cold. Think I've only ever had one cold that was mild, everything else has been way worse.

I start taking strepsils, ibuprofen and paracetamol as soon as I get a sore throat. I've managed to stop a few recently by doing that.

extrastrongnosugar · 18/11/2018 11:22

i put 5 drops of tabasco in a glass of water and drink it for sinusitis,
gargle with salt water for sore throat, if necessary shoot it through the nose too,
squeeze two lemons and drink juice straight with a straw and sleep as much as i can when i feel unwell.
when i feel well i shower cold.
havent had a cold for two years now despite small kids, pregnancy, sleepless newborn (and will probably catch one now that i said itGrin)

I make chicken soup.
Have lots of garlic.
Might have a hot curry, and ask for extra garlic in it.
Have a hot, hot, bath.
Go to bed and cocoon to sweat it out.
Use olbas oil.
