Isolated with a big moat and a drawbridge! Bah!! Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 22/02/2018 14:42

Modern because warmer and easier to maintain, but not one of those glass everywhere ones because we live in Scotland. I'd love for it to have interesting nooks and crannies, not be a boring box.

I'd like 6 bedrooms, a large lounge, playroom, small cosy lounge, kitchen/diner, large utility room, boot/mud room, three bathrooms, study and a craft room for me. Good size garage attached to the house so we don't have to go outside in the rain to get to the car. Big garden with large vegetable patch, plenty of space for trees and running around and a covered porch/veranda. And I want fireplaces in both lounges because fires are the best.

GrouchyKiwi · 22/02/2018 14:44

Oh. And lots of storage. All the storage. A large pantry, a large linen cupboard, cupboards everywhere. There is never enough storage.

isseywithcats · 22/02/2018 14:54

big stand alone victorian mansion at least six bedrooms, big old fashioned country style kitchen with a proper pantry, large front lounge with big bay windows cornicing and ceiling roses , and i would go to auction houses and furnish it with genuine victorian furniture as it can be picked up for next to nothing nowadays as its out of fashion

Namethecat · 22/02/2018 14:59

I'd be happy in the home I'm in now if only my oh would finish all the diy / renovation jobs he has started but then realised they are jobs he can't quite manage to do by himself but will not get someone in to help/complete before starting another job - lives in unfinished building site which is untidy all the time !

ankasi · 22/02/2018 15:06

It would be a modern and eco-friendly house with triple glazing, underfloor heating throughout, solar panels on the roof and a cistern for rain water in the garden, which is used for flushing the loo and watering the plants.
Large kitchen/diner, reading nook, three or four bedrooms, utility room with a laundry chute to take the dirty laundry down and a dumbwaiter to take the clean laundry back up.
Large basement for storage and a double garage the car I would then buy.
I may have thought about this a bit before

MrsExpo · 22/02/2018 15:08

Classically designed, double fronted (I like symmetry), not too big/not too small, lots of light and natural wood. Modern kitchen. Good sized garden with a veg plot. Garaging for at least three cars (DH is a car freak!) Paddocks, stables, (I'm a horse freak!), room for dogs, in the country somewhere nice .... .... you can dream can't you .... ?

carriewintermeadow · 22/02/2018 15:15

Near a beach, maybe Scotland, no houses in the immediate vicinity, huge windows for lots of light, wooden floors, but lots of lovely wool rugs, window seats to sit and read on, a wood burning stove, a dishwasher and big American fridge freezer, a walk in huge shower and under floor heating in the bathroom, a big bath with easily room for two with spa jets. A pebble and cobble stone garden with pots of plants and lovely smelling flowers.

Ive clearly put too much thought into this and it will never happen but still ...

TimeIhadaNameChange · 22/02/2018 15:22

I want rooms for my rabbits and guinea pigs, with outdoor areas attached. Plus another room to keep all the animal stuff in, including washing machine and tumble drier just for their pads etc.

A garden big enough for all the other pets.

I'd also have a circular library on the roof, as it were, accessible through a hidden door.

A lounge large enough that I could have a treadmill in front of the tv and it wouldn't dominate the room.

GrouchyKiwi · 22/02/2018 15:24

ankasi Dumbwaiter for laundry is genius! ~steals idea~

Bluebell878275 · 22/02/2018 17:07

metalmum15 lol - that is actually one my favourite 'movie houses'! Have you seen the film Annabelle Creation - now that is a FAB house - I like old and creaky...a house you can get lost in..

metalmum15 · 22/02/2018 19:41

No I haven't seen that one Bluebell

I love big creaky old American houses with wraparound porches and bay windows and endless rooms and corridors. I always think the reality would be that they're really cold and dark though.

phoenix1973 · 22/02/2018 19:47

Definitely by the sea. But on a strong coastline not a chalky crumbling one.Hopefully not facing north.
On its own.
Huge windows overlooking the sea. Bathroom window full height overlooking the sea.
Large garden with sections for different types of trees. A river or pond.
No public thoroughfares please.
Facing south or west but not located in the south west.
No zoos or other attractions within 5 miles.
Gated access.
Indoor pool.
Private beach access.
I'd love this 😄

SheSparkles · 22/02/2018 19:51

Self tidying and self cleaning 😁

BrieAndChilli · 22/02/2018 19:55

There was a house for sale in the next village over that was perfect for my family. It had
A lounge with open fire and walls of books shelves
study
Downstairs loo with a big walk-in oat and shoe cupboard
Massive kitchen/dining/family room with lots of floor to ceiling windows
Further reception room at the back that would be a hobby room for crafts, sewing, science experiments, homework and music
A pantry room the same size as my current kitchen!! Good for all those small appliance such as bread maker etc and could use t to decorate cakes without making the main kitchen messy
A utility room with a walk-in clothes drying cupboard!
A large double garage

The upstairs it had a master suite with walk-in wardrobe, ensure with a built in tv by the bath!
4 double bedrooms and 2 large bathrooms (3 for the kids and a guest room)
Then there was a large room over the double garage (accessed from the same hall as the bedrooms) which would be a kids play room, DS2 could have all his Lego set up and DD could have space for gymnastics stuff.
Then there was a bonus room up in the attic which would be a man cave with Xbox etc up there and all DHs comic books etc!

Garden size it had a large patio and large lawn area on one side and then a smaller kitchen garden on the other for washing line, green house, shed, veg patches etc

Too bad I couldn’t afford it!!!

Dahlietta · 22/02/2018 20:00

Quiet. My ideal home would be quiet.

Giraffelant · 22/02/2018 20:05

A nice, eco-friendly house, with lots of natural light. I love red brick buildings and bay windows; I'd also have a sun room/conservatory overlooking something nice (preferably by the sea).

I'd have big rooms, a master bedroom with good storage, a bedroom each for the DCs, and a spare bedroom, a craft/hobby room and a play room. A utility room for laundry etc. DH might like some kind of cinema or games room. He'd also want a hot tub, but in my ideal house I wouldn't have one.

It would have a lovely garden and a nice drive with a garage. It would be out in the country or by the sea. Assuming I'd have to be wealthy to own this house, I'd also retire so I could enjoy it.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 22/02/2018 20:06

An Edwardian arts & craft period house
In USA revenge abc show the beach house Emily has in Hamptons

CanIhavedessertfirst · 22/02/2018 20:10

I'd want a cute little cottage on an island - similar to the island on The Wickerman, just without the rituals. I'd want a room just for my books too.

Pointlessfact · 24/02/2018 23:33

8 bedrooms

echt · 24/02/2018 23:35

A hall, double glazing and a verandah.
