To quite like Alastair Campbell?

It’s a bit of a guilty pleasure thing.

I think it’s because we seem to share a lot of the same interests (France, French, Jacques Brel, anti-Brexit etc.), and I find him really engaging to listen to as he’s quite passionate about things he finds interesting and is a good public speaker, but.. I find it a bit embarrassing.

I never used to like him, but am now warming to him. I mentioned it to a couple of friends though, and they think I’m bonkers.

So help me, Mumsnet - am I being U?

(Needless to say, this is light-hearted).

I used to have the hots for him. Might still if I ever saw him on anything.

Lottapianos · 21/02/2018 22:46

I do think he's quite hot. And he talks a lot of sense about Brexit and explains his points well. So I get it OP. No judgement here Smile

KERALA1 · 21/02/2018 22:47

Agree he'd be good company I reckon

beepthemeep · 21/02/2018 22:47

I like him in "the thick of it" Grin

Tippz · 21/02/2018 22:48

YANBU. There is something likeable about him, and he is a mix of cheeky, posh, cute, and slightly fanciable. Grin

Gacapa · 21/02/2018 22:49

I admire his openness on his experiences of depression.

He's hot as all hell.

SuziePink · 21/02/2018 22:50

I've had, uh, feelings for him for some time Grin

YADNBU!

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 21/02/2018 22:51

Omg yes you’re all so right! I reckon he'd be good company and I also think he’s quite persuasive and charming, so he’d bring you round to his way of thinking even if you'd originally had a different point of view to him.

I secretly like him too, OP - despite all of the damage done during the Blair years. He has spoken out a lot about his mental health issues, for which I admire him.

boatyardblues · 21/02/2018 22:51

I get it. He has something about him.

birdsdestiny · 21/02/2018 22:52

I enjoyed the interview between him and Owen Jones. Took about 1 minute for a.c. to wipe the floor with him.

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 21/02/2018 22:52

Me too Gacapa. Really respect him for it. I thought it was very brave of him to talk about them do publicly.

I would. Wink

IvorHughJarrs · 21/02/2018 22:55

I disagree with almost everything he says but have a weird crush on him anyway!

Armi · 21/02/2018 23:03

I totally would.

Stugzule · 21/02/2018 23:12

Ive met him due to past job, he was very kind and lovely and I love the work he does for mental health, still hard to overlook some of the more dubious shit though!

KC225 · 21/02/2018 23:20

Get a grip and hose your loins Ladies. Chop him half and he would have smug tosser stamped all the way through like a stick of toxic rock.

RollTopBath · 21/02/2018 23:20

He’s a lovely man.

PiecesOfHate · 22/02/2018 08:03

I saw him on Channel 4 News last night.

I liked! Grin

EllieMe · 22/02/2018 08:18

Me too, OP. Me too.

treaclesoda · 22/02/2018 08:22

I remember years ago my mum used to read Prima magazine. Does that still exist? Anyway, the editor of the magazine had, very tragically, lost both her husband and her young daughter to cancer and her husband had been friends with Alastair Campbell and she wrote a very touching article about what a good friend he had been to her dying husband and how he had run the London marathon in memory of her daughter. It certainly made me see him as much more human.

RosiePosiePuddle · 22/02/2018 08:22

Where do you listen to him? Is there a podcast?

Littlecaf · 22/02/2018 08:24

Me too

Although he is a master of spin so clearly has excellent PR to make you think he’s fanciable. Wink

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 22/02/2018 08:39

Haha Littlecaf Grin

I met him once, about a decade ago.

He is fabulous. So articulate and interested in things: lovely to talk to, because he sees right to the centre of issues and works out how to resolve them.

My meeting with him was marred by just one thing.

When my children were at nursery they learned a song which went, "Alice the camel has TWOOOO humps, TWOOOO humps, TWOOO humps".

Whenever they sang it I would hear "Alastair Campbell" instead of "Alice the camel". Of course I mentioned this to my husband and Mr C quickly became known as "TWOOO humps" in our house. So when I eventually met him, and had such a lovely conversation with him, there was a soundtrack which only I could hear of "TWOOOO humps" which didn't stop until he left the event.
