To think this increase is excessive?

So today I picked up my daughter from nursery to find a letter stating that prices are going up, which I understand. But the cost of after school is going up by 50%, increasing my monthly bill by £100, which seems excessive when she could go to schools after school club for just £80 for the whole month. AIBU to think this is a bit excessive?

That's a massive increase. Is there a particular reason for it being so drastic? I'd question it. The inflation in 3%.

They're saying the reason is due to the living wage increase. But that increase is 33p an hour, for 1 staff working 35 hours is an increase of around £11 a week and around £44 a month. 10 members of staff (roughly) is £440 a month. 30 children (roughly) is an extra income of around £1500 a month (accounting for children who have a less percentage increase as full day rates haven't increased by that much) spoken to a few of the other parents this morning and looks like there is a good few of us looking at alternative options now which is a shame as I can't fault the care. (My maths are approximations so I get that I could be wrong with it)

They've probably checked their figures and realised they've been running at a loss, which is why the increase is so high.

Or, as it is a nursery, they have realised that their overall operating budget is going to be run at a loss because they can't afford the new 'free' hours that the government funds, so they are covering their operating costs through other areas.
