To be really worried about this spam email?

Posting for traffic and advice really.
Received an email from ‘DVLA’ which when googled contains a malware attachment. First thought would be to delete the email except they’ve actually got my full name, sort number, partial account number AND my vego cal registration on the email! I tried to contact DVLA but there physically is no option and I don’t know whether the bank will be able to even advise on this one.

I’m really concerned as to how they’ve obtained these many details about myself Hmm any advice on where to go from here? I’m not easily freaked out but this is really bothering me !

Take a note of the email address (write it down), do NOT click any links in the email, delete it and then when you get round to it contact DVLA via the .gov website

www.gov.uk/contact-the-dvla/

Happened to me. forward the email to mailto:[email protected] and they will look into it for you. They got back to me the next day. It was spam.

I wouldn't worry too much about how they got your details. (I know that sounds flippant as it's happening to you and not me) but there's a reason why they continue to do these scam emails - because they're effective, realistic and they work. You aren't being singularly targeted, hundreds if not thousands would have got the same email with their personal details on there too.

I phoned Halifax who said to just keep an eye on payments leaving my account. DVLA phoneline not helpful but I will report via link above so thank you for that... really really concerned to the amount of details they had on me. How on earth could they gain that much info ?!

I bought a new (secondhand) car last autumn do looked on the DVLA website a few times to check what to do about tax etc. The day after we got the car I had a text from the DVLA with an attachment to fill in to get a partial car tax refund. I was busy doing something else and opened it. The form looked completely genuine, layout, font etc just like the dvla site, but as I read down it asked for full name and address, date of birth, bank details and the giveaway, mother's maiden name. That's what made me realise it was dodgy (and the fact I'd worked out I wouldn't get any refund on my tax as we changed cars at the end of a month)
It looked genuine. I rang the dvla and somewhere in the automated service a voice told me not to fall for any such thing, they don't send texts or emails regarding refunds (or words to that effect). So clearly there is an issue with info and the dvla website. Made me feel better but thank goodness I realised it was dodgy (DH had a bit of a go when I told him). The only thing I'm not sure of is how they'd got my mobile number.
