Badweekjustgotworse · 19/02/2018 21:11

Come on op, seriously? Click on that link and it’ll ask you for your bank detail and if your stupid enough to give them those it’ll be asking for a password or PIN number. Go to the hmrc website and report a scam screenshot it and send them the image.

iklboo · 19/02/2018 21:12

Scam, scam, scam. HMRC never email you like this.

EeeSheWasThin · 19/02/2018 21:14

Definitely a scam. Info on the actual HMRC website -

www.gov.uk/government/news/hmrc-halts-thousands-of-scam-text-messages

Point 4 at the bottom of that page explains how to report it, and the take five website link has some useful tips.

MrsJayy · 19/02/2018 21:16

Just delete it don't press a link you don't owe anybody money,

VladmirsPoutine · 19/02/2018 21:18

You would 'have' received a letter if you were due a rebate. This is a scam.

MrsJayy · 19/02/2018 21:18

They were phoninglandlines last year

MrsJayy · 19/02/2018 21:19

I meant to sayyou are not due any money

Ginkypig · 19/02/2018 21:24

Don't click on any links

Google report fraudulent hmrc txt and there should be a way to report it.

Bluelady · 19/02/2018 21:25

Ignore. HMRC always write.

LadySainsburySeal · 19/02/2018 21:31

As everyone else said. Ignore.

ThePinkOcelot · 19/02/2018 21:34

Life everyone else says, it’s a scam! I’ve just received my refund by cheque through the post, all £9 of it!

missmorleyme · 19/02/2018 21:38

HRMC would never send a text, ita all letters, always always be suspicious of messages like these, and if you do beleive them, contact the so called sender direct thru phone call and query it.

brizzledrizzle · 19/02/2018 21:41

Whatever you do, don't click on that link.

Meandmy4 · 19/02/2018 21:48

HMRC have an email address to send phishing crap on to.

[email protected]

Forward texts to 60599

(gives them a chance to investigate the source)

Witchend · 19/02/2018 21:53

I had one of those. Apparently they owe me a refund from 2015/16. I wasn't paying tax in that year, and I believe the tax man is reluctant to pay me instead. Grin

sobeyondthehills · 19/02/2018 22:12

I got one of these for £1250 I hadn't worked that year. I also got an email, the same day from an American's widow, her husband had just died and she didn't want his money going to his money grabbing relatives, so would happily give it to me, knowing I was a Christian man and would spend it in the Lord's way.

I am neither Christian or a man and was thinking of the mansion with the indoor swimming pool I could buy.

Flomy · 19/02/2018 22:16

Scam. Never click a link in a text or email. They even do it on the landline. Press 3 for your refund etc Hmm

WazFlimFlam · 19/02/2018 22:18

HMRC will send you a cheque or you can ask them for a BACs payment, after tgey have written to you.

Skiiltan · 19/02/2018 22:18

It's a scam, although HMRC does send a lot of texts and many of them look pretty dubious. You're supposed to report scams texts to them but It's a bit of a painful process.

I've today got into yet another row with people claiming to act on behalf of insurance companies but actually having no physical address or even web site (just a Facebook page) and sending e-mails from non-existent addresses (the reply-to address does exist but in on a domain that has nothing to do with any insurance company). Companies and organizations that do financial business on the web are increasingy farming it out to third parties, who subcontract to fourth parties, so that even supposedly legitimate messages look like scams. The customer gets blamed if she/he falls for a scam but gets penalized if she/he fails to respond to an official message that looks like a scam. I don't think there are any reputable financial service businesses any more, and agencies like HMRC are going the same way.
