to ask to move to cheaper studio

Hi
Right just to explain.
Me and my partner where living in a studio that had mold issues and I asked our landlord if he had other properties to rehouse us I was paying £400 for it we are stuck with this landlord due to money issues.
He had some new studios priced between £400 to £450 I ended up choosing one at £425 at the time I was glad to get out of the mouldy flat as I was worried about health risks.
I would dearly love a flat with seperate bedroom etc and have seen these priced around the same price as this tiny studio I am in.
I feel really depressed as I just cant get the money together for the £1000 they want these days to move in somewhere and my credit rating is useless and I cant get a guarantor so I am stuck at getting something better for same money or even less.
I have noticed that he is not filling the studios that well and a lot have been reduced right down to £350 would I be unreasonable to ask to move to another one for this price or would it be cheeky.
.

Firstly your not useless. You have kept a roof over your head and not missed a rental payment in 18 months - that's good!

Could you email landlord instead?

Are there any other temprary rooms you can rent in the area just to get away from the situation that is making you ill? Or stay with the relative for a few weeks til you find somewhere

lakia10 · 19/02/2018 11:13

The mould issue was with the old place.
This place is clean and done to decent enough standard obviously there was issue with rats in walls but I think they are slowly getting under control. It's just that it's so small and there is better for the money out there but my rating is stuffed and I can't get the fees together to move.

I have diabetes, am overweight due to my binge eating, have high blood pressure, underactive thyroid, psoriasis am useless at going to doctors, ordering prescriptions, and generally unmotivated with work and have to force myself with everything.

I work full time every week and get tired and stressed and still struggle to make the money go anywhere.

Lots of house shares have en suite rooms these days. It might not be your ideal choice to house share but financially you have to cut your cloth at times.

SofieMonde · 19/02/2018 11:24

I suppose you could get a loan but it would be high interest ...you would be in a better value for money larger studio but then you would be worried about paying it back.

For now the place you are in is clean albeit small, not your ideal place but you can aim for that later. I think right now you need to address your depression and get help.

SofieMonde · 19/02/2018 11:26

Multiple Occupancy houseshares can be awful but if you get a room in a landlords house that could be a better option

lakia10 · 19/02/2018 12:09

Honestly I have just took a call and wish I hadn't picked it up

Letting agent who when I explained my credit rating to just simply said you will fail thorn and you need to clear debt before applying and then forget a solicitors letter to say its clear.
Now I feel ten times worse.

Oh spelling mistakes

lakia10 · 19/02/2018 12:13

They said I will definitely fail and would need to clear the debt and then get a solicitor letter to say its clear.

I'm not gonna even bother trying anymore when they are so dismissive

lakia10 · 19/02/2018 12:14

They could get somebody without debt earning more money and have big problems with them. Let them get on with it then.

Contact a debt agency like step change. Tell them you can't afford 100 pounds a week. It's too much.

HoHoHoHo · 19/02/2018 12:19

If you're really drowning in debt you could look into getting a debt relief order. A portion of it could be written off and your credit rating would recover in 6 years.

Me and my partner where living in a studio that had mold issues and I asked our landlord if he had other properties to rehouse us

What is your partner doing/paying for in all this?

StormTreader · 19/02/2018 12:26

Its worth talking to step change again. To be honest, if you really think your debt will never clear then it might be worth looking into bankruptcy, it'll screw your credit rating for 7 years but the debt will be gone and in 7 years time youll be free and clear again. Step Change can advise you on that as an option.

Hello lakia10 , we're really sorry that you're going through such a hard time at the moment.

We know that your thread was started so you could get advice on your accommodation issues, but as you've posted about feeling so low lately, we thought it might be a good idea to post a link to our Mental Health webguide. There are plenty or organisations listed on it which could give you support in real life. You can also go to the Samaritans website, or email them on [email protected].

Support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, but as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek real life help and support as well.

From a practical point of view, we'd echo the advice given by other Mumsnetters, to get back in touch with Step Change for more advice. We also have a webpage on debt and money matters with links to Citizens Advice Bureau and other organisations which can offer you support and advice.

We really hope things start looking up for you soon. Flowers
