AIBU to ask why Why has my 23mth old dropped her two hour afternoon nap overnight and started waking 2 hours earlier too?

I'm pretty sure there is a "wonder week" around 24 months which might be the reason. It's the last one I think. If you Google it will give you examples of how the developmental milestones coinside with more frequent waking and unsettled behaviour. The good news is it could be temporary if it is a wonder week.

Dunno, mine did something similar, but now has a good hour or two in the day. Tbh even on days she says she doesn’t need or want a nap, she can go in her cot for an hour just to let mummy have a breather. Won’t kill her & she’ll sit & chat to er teddies.

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 19/02/2018 06:41

Oh my - I feel for you! Mine stopped the daytime nap at 18 months and I sorely missed it. The waking earlier in addition though, would have crippled me! Hopefully Magic is right and it sorts itself out Brew

metellaestinatrio · 19/02/2018 06:56

It may only be temporary, my son has just turned two and three of the toddlers in our NCT group (so same age) have suddenly dropped their naps recently. They all went back to napping again after a week or so, so don't give up hope!

TheRoadLessRocky · 19/02/2018 07:09

Because toddlers are unreasonable bastards.

Mine did similar around 20 months, but rather than late bedtime/early get up, it was 2 hours in the middle of the night. I was so exhausted, then one day, I don't even know how it happened, she just started sleeping better at night.

confusedhelpme · 19/02/2018 07:16

They all do this at some point the bastards!

This too will pass (I promise)

BaffledMummy · 19/02/2018 07:22

Yep...20 month old gave up on naps after weeks of trying to coerce her into her cot in the afternoon. I brought forward bedtime an hour which sort of helped but i missed those naps so badly....

And the little monkey apparently naps for an hour for the days she’s in nursery. Goes down easily at nap time with all the other toddlers and conks out according to her key worker. Confused

SEsofty · 19/02/2018 08:02

Two is probably the most common age to stop napping.

Need to physically exhaust during the day eg get child to walk as much as possible even though much slower for you and means difficult to actually do anything

SEsofty · 19/02/2018 08:04

Baffled. It's really common to still nap at nursery because the sensory simulation means they are more tired
