AIBU to think you can't 'easily make 2k in 2 weeks' (lighthearted)

Just to be clear - this is in NO WAY a poor me begging thread, this is about a friend.

Was chatting yesterday about what would be like to win the lottery and how we'd spend it, then Friend says she's doing alright for herself at the moment because alongside her part time job she's making 2k every 2 weeks from her own 'projects'. She assured me these are legal things, but then went all coy about what she's actually doing, only saying it takes little time, and little investment.

Am I right to be afraid that she's going to try and recruit me for one of these MLM schemes?! It seems like the kind of bollocks the deluded bots would claim. Building up the excitement by being coy then selling it as The Dream.

Because for the life of me I can't think of any way you could easily make 2k in 2 weeks alongside another job, with little time and investment. And if friend HAS found this mythical beast, AIBU to be sulky she's not sharing this precious Holy Grail info? Grin Some friend. Huff.

Maybe she's fished 2000 supermarket trolleys from a canal and is planning on returning them?

Hotdoggity · 18/02/2018 23:23

Yeah, it’s great when it pays! But as I’m sure you know, it’s been a long time coming and didn’t pay for a long, long time.

whyhastherumgone · 19/02/2018 09:03

@hotdiggity I do. I'm still very much at the non paying end at the moment and have actually been thinking about jacking it all in because of it. Congrats on being able to make money from it, you must be a great writer/story teller.

So i just received this picture from her on whatsapp - it's going to be MLM for sure isn't it? Anybody know what the image is relating to?

Pretty sure both are legal as long as you don't sleep with them!

Prositution isnt illegal.

SurferRona · 19/02/2018 09:19

Oooh! Lucky you, it's MLM called 'nuskin'!!

CMH123 · 19/02/2018 09:20

I think that's the scheme for slimming coffee.

toolonglurking · 19/02/2018 09:56

Oh bad luck OP, say goodbye to that friendship!

Earlyup · 19/02/2018 10:00

I read that as 'nuss-kin' and was trying to work out what it might be Grin

PeerieBreeks · 19/02/2018 10:06

Prositution isnt illegal

Thanks @HollyBayTree, I came on to say exactly this! Sleeping with someone for money is not illegal.

Its a common misconception.

NewBallsPlease00 · 19/02/2018 10:09

One of the junior lads on my team makes at least 1k month matched betting- so much so he wouldn't move into his new house till broadband was sorted because it would impact his income to much!!

Hobbes8 · 19/02/2018 10:13

Even the top end earnings in that picture doesn't equate to £2k in 2 weeks, so she's definitely bullshitting you.

Camomila · 19/02/2018 10:17

Matched betting?
Bitcoin? (I'm not 100% sure what this is but one of the boys on my course does it instead of a p/t job)

Purplerain101 · 19/02/2018 10:21

Escorting is 100% legal in this country even if having full sex with the clients. The only times it’s illegal is if working from a brothel or soliciting for business. If she’s doing it from her own home or a hotel room (on her own) then it’s legal. Sites like adultwork have millions of women advertising on there and some of them make very good money. Could you see her doing something like that? What about lap dancing? I’m inclined to think it’s skmething in the sex industry if she’s being coy about telling you what it is

FilledSoda · 19/02/2018 10:37

Gosh , you really have to dig deep to see what Nuskin is , supplements & facial stuff I think .

whyhastherumgone · 19/02/2018 10:40

Apparently she sent that to me by mistake! Obviously has ruined her pitch now as @Hobbes8 pointed out, it doesn't equate to her 2k in 2 weeks sum. Wonder if she's still going to try and recruit me.
Wonder if I should talk to her about these schemes?!
Never heard of Nuskin will have a google, bit gutted it's MLM.

Just the stupid names of the levels would put me off. I mean, it starts off with 'executive'. Sorry, 'Executive'.

Satansfriendlyface · 19/02/2018 15:16

I hate that MLM shit. Best to avoid your friend for the foreseeable future.

She couldn’t make £4k pm from matched betting anyway. I do it for a few hours a day and I’m lucky to hit a grand a month. Still, I’d rather be doing that than bullying my friends into buying crap overpriced beauty products.

CaveMum · 19/02/2018 15:21

Like others say, unlikely to be Matched Betting as to earn £1,000 per month you need to do a good 10-15 hours per week and the betting opportunities aren’t there.

I never thought MB was for me but I started a month ago and am £200 up! I signed up to Team Profit (it’s free) after seeing several MNers recommend them and their guides are really helpful: www.teamprofit.com/perfect-introduction

PinkAvocado · 19/02/2018 19:15

Cave Mum - accas are profitable. In the first months with all the opening offers, £1000 is not that hard to make. Few hours each evening...

Ohyesiam · 19/02/2018 19:51

It's soliciting that's illegal, not sex for money.
So you can do it, but you can't advertise it.

whyhastherumgone · 19/02/2018 21:30

Well the MLM scheme ("that's not MLM) is only one of the projects that is contributing to this regular 2k per 2 week income (also why not just say 1k a week?!). I messaged and asked if it was escorting or matched betting and she's gone quiet - maybe it's a combination of all three!

OP posts:
whyhastherumgone · 19/02/2018 21:31

she says it's not mlm just to clarify but it obviously is.

OP posts:
whyhastherumgone · 24/02/2018 12:07

Can someone direct me to the MLM bot threads? I can only find old ones, the search function is being rubbish.
She predictably tried to recruit me and has got quite confrontational about purchasing from her as well...looking for some advice on how to deal with it!

OP posts:
whyhastherumgone · 24/02/2018 12:10

Also @hotdiggity do you mind if I PM you? Not about trying to pick your brains about the secret of your success - more a general writing question I wondered if you could help with. No worries if not.

OP posts:
Callamia · 24/02/2018 12:12

Do ask her about her tax return plans. Because I’m willing to bet that no matter how much money she ‘earns’, none of it will be declared to HMRC.
