AIBU to think you can be to skinny for a rollercoaster?

I’m going back to Orlando again in the summer with my 8 year old DS and he’s now 48” tall - at the rate he’s growing I expect he’ll be 49”, so he’ll now be tall enough to go on most rides.

The only thing I’m concerned about is the fact he’s very slim - although a healthy weight for his height he seems to be very compact, if that makes sense.

Am I right to be concerned about safety bars or other safety devices not securing him properly? Last time we went on a coaster that he was the height for and the bar didn’t fully secure down on him but we were sent on anyway - I was holding on him to for dear life. Maybe I’m just being to panicky but have any other mums have experience of this?

I took DD there last summer when she was 8, 49 inches and she is super skinny. She didn't have any issues with the rides - and neither did her same age cousin who is even smaller.

I'm petrified on rollercoasters and rides and I wasn't worried once at Disney or Universal.

Btw, the Pandora Avatar ride is superb and well worth the queue. DD and her cousin still rave about it.

All rollercoasters are deathtraps and the sooner they're all banned the better IMO

They're really not, GreyGarden. Millions of people go on roller coasters every year with no incident.

I was on a pirate ship ride thing years ago when I was super skinny. The person next to me was twice my size so the bar only came down so far. I was held in (just) by my knees! It is probably the most frightening experience of my life to date.

But ... that was 20 years ago. I think things are a bit safer these days!!
