Once again on a local facebook group, the posting is I want a cleaner, I am not OCD but wants things tidy, can anyone recommend anyone?

I replied with stop using a serious mental health disorder as a way to find a recommendation.

Yeah I'm with you. My MIL says "I'm OCD about these things". It drives me insane.

Even from a grammatical point of view: "I'm not Obsessive Compulsive Disorder" just makes no sense.

I’m with you too. I really do have ocd and although I really want a cleaner I’m terrified they will touch things I don’t want them to, or do things in the wrong order. For someone with the illness, it’s a huge problem to deal with. People just don’t get it.

I also have OCD which is probably why I am so sensitive to it. But I am being battered on facebook now for saying its wrong to use that phrase

I think you're being unreasonable. I remember when people used 'psycopath' without any real understanding. Then 'bipolar'. Now it's OCD you take offence to but how many times a day do you read, 'my MiL, a complete narcissist...'

The reasonable thing would have been to ignored the comment.

Says who? OCD could end with -ly making it an adjective. It's commonly used in such a way. Prescriptive grammar is for the hard of thinking.
