To want to go to A&E!?

hollowtree · 17/02/2018 20:23

My first AIBU so go a little easy- also feeling extremely sorry for myself!

For about 2 weeks I've been having chronic headaches (think can't drive/lights hurt) which I put down to sleep deprivation. On my worst days I used the codiene I was given after my EMCS! Naughty I know but when you have a small baby and no time for the bloody doctors you'll do anything.

Last few days been feeling a bit fluey- temperature, fatigue, aches and pains along with the usual cough/sore throat/stuffy nose.

Then, last night around 2am I woke up with this excruciating pain in my ear along with (what sounded to me like) a firework display in my head! Followed by fluid leaking out from my ear all over my pillow.

So I thought- happy days: must have been an ear infection/abscess which had sorted itself out and explains the headaches and temperature.

But the pain is getting worse. And I'm feeling so dizzy and just so so shit. My head is banging, my neck is aching and my body feels like it's giving up on me.

I sort of want to see if I need fixing, and getting through today has been a struggle let alone waiting all of tomorrow for an appointment on Monday 😓 WIBU to call 111 and ask if I should be worried or if I need to go to A&E?

I read a thread on here recently about wasting NHS resources and now feeling guilty Blush please tel me WWYD

She has an ear infection. Why is everyone panicking so much?!

Hmmmm. Any further gems to offer?

SequinsOnEverything · 19/02/2018 17:43

Another one who says make sure you complain when you feel up to it. They could have caught this at a&e if they'd bothered checking.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 19/02/2018 17:48

Flowers hollowtree hope you feel better soon, and thank goodness you posted!

CatkinToadflax · 19/02/2018 17:54

Flowers Cake Brew hope you're on the mend very soon x

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/02/2018 17:55

You are in the right place OP. Flowers. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

To whoever asked about why we were panicking about the ear infection, the OP’s update is why.

I think you need to complain on 2 fronts actually. One about the treatment (or lack of it) in A&E and I think it needs to be raised with 111/OOH too. There seem to have been 2 missed opportunities to have assessed you properly.

lilabet2 · 19/02/2018 17:56

Go to A&E definitely!

111 know nothing and often delays in being seen by a real doctor and getting treatment lead to conditions getting much worse!! Obviously there are some ridiculous people out there who go to A&E for a cold but they're in the minority.

I had actually booked an appt with my doctor this evening but here I am. Feeling so so much Less pain since IV ABs- such a relief.

CT scan just came back I was writing this: all clear but lots of early warning signs of sepsis so have to keep very close eye on obs and come back in if I feel worse, but I am actually allowed to go home when my fluids finish thank you God. DH on his way right now

Thank goodness your DH was aware and acted promptly! It's not surprising you are having a bad attack of the 'what ifs'. That will take a while to process.
I hope the drugs kick in quickly and you feel better soon Flowers

lilabet2 · 19/02/2018 18:09

Oh no, just read your update! I really hope you are ok and make a full recovery!

If anyone is ever feeling very ill they should definitely go to A&E!

mumof06darlings · 19/02/2018 18:11

My god. Thank god you are ok now. If the dr had done a few extra tests on you yesterday, the ambulances and your time yesterday wouldn't have been wasted. Please do complain. I'm normally one not to complain but what that dr did yesterday was pure negligence. The very least you needed yesterday was a temperature check. Thank god your dh was on the ball.

KitKat1985 · 19/02/2018 18:12

Thank you for the update OP.

I completely agree about complaining about your treatment. A&E should have picked up how unwell you were when you first visited. I'm a nurse and I can't believe they didn't even do any baseline obs on you. I appreciate they were busy but it's not an excuse for poor care.

shouldnthavesaid · 19/02/2018 18:14

Thank goodness you're alright, was a bit worried when I saw your update, have looked after a couple of people with cerebral abscesses from ear infections, sinusitis etc. Very rare but nasty - so so glad your CT was OK. Hope you get a good night's sleep and feel better soon!

DuncanDonut · 19/02/2018 18:15

Glad you're feeling better and being taken care of (at long last). Get well soon Thanks

youarenotkiddingme · 19/02/2018 18:17

Gosh. Excellent job once again to ambers for great advice about warning signs and great job your DH for reacting so quickly Thanks

Cornettoninja · 19/02/2018 18:23

The NHS is obe

Cornettoninja · 19/02/2018 18:23

Well that posted too soon....

JaneEyre70 · 19/02/2018 18:24

Blimey I had a horrid feeling you'd need more help. You must have terrified your DH! Hope you're feeling better soon.

notapizzaeater · 19/02/2018 18:26

Glad your DH listened to you and checked

booellesmum · 19/02/2018 18:27

I am so sorry you have been through all that. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Frazzled2207 · 19/02/2018 18:29

That all sounds horrible but hopefully once the abs kick in you will be on the mend. Sorry you've had such a terrible nhs experience.

Cornettoninja · 19/02/2018 18:34

Never mind what I was posting before I've just read your update hollow.

His frightening for you all. Your dh is an absolute Star for keeping an eye on you.

I hope you recover well now (give it as much time as it needs you've been very poorly) Flowers

I think you should at the very least feed back to the hospital. I get how busy they are and that they must see loads of people with 'just' flus etc but such simple checks can avoid catastrophic consequences. The doctor you saw and the team around him need to be reminded of that.
