To be embarrassed I don't know how to make porridge without using a microwave ..

how would you make yours for your little ones on a busy morning without a microwave?

I am too embarrassed to ask anyone 😳😳

Thankyou

I don’t like porridge made with milk.

I put water into the pan, add the right amount of oats (for me that’s less than some as I don’t like my porridge very very thick).

Leave water to come to the boil whilst stirring, then turn it right down to thicken to the right consistency.

Salt, sugar or sweetener.

Done.

cjferg · 17/02/2018 19:18

I do one part oats to two parts milk (or one part milk one part water if skint) in a pan, bring to boil, cook/stir til desired consistency.

I don't know how to defrost my freezer. Now that's embarrassing.

Porridge made with milk Shock

You make it with water and a pinch of salt!!!!

Then you can feel utterly virtuous as you drizzle said porridge with double cream and caramel sauce...

Or if you are being heathy a big dollop of puréed fruit (raspberry is my favourite).

Dizzybacon · 17/02/2018 20:41

Peanut butter mixed in is amazing Smile

Dizzybacon · 17/02/2018 20:42

I think made with water and salt is the traditional Scottish method

When my mother was little she had porridge with water and salt through lent. Then cream and sugar on Easter Sunday! I thought that sounded lovely 😃

I made it with cream once when we ran out of milk. It was disgusting, alas ☹️

I like the apple juice idea. Might give that a try.

Don't know whether peanut butter would be a bit icky, but willing to give that a go too!

Shame I've already had supper...

demirose87 · 17/02/2018 22:03

I always just do it in the microwave. It's so much easier and quicker.

LoniceraJaponica · 17/02/2018 22:07

Sorry, but salt in porridge - eurgh!

Disclaimer - I'm not Scottish. To me salty porridge is inedible.

greendale17 · 17/02/2018 22:13

Porridge done properly is deeeeelicious!**

^No, it really is not delicious

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 17/02/2018 22:20

1 measure of oats, 2 measures of boiling water.
Make tea from the rest of the kettle and drink tea leaving oats to steep.

Come back from cuppa, add more hot water until they are your desired consistency. Heat to a boil and slightly thicker than desired. Remove from heat. Add evap (and peanut butter).

@thistle I've never heard of a porridge spurtle. Do you use one?
