Taxi not actually a taxi

I don’t think I am being U - just not sure what to do.

Went to a wedding and at the end of the evening asked the barman to call us a cab so we could go bak to our hotel (not local so figured he would know a local firm).

Car arrived and tbh it looked pretty fancy but we were a bit drunk.

Arrived at the hotel (10:30 at night weeknight) and the guy wanted £20 when it was £5 on the way there.

Turns out barman had booked us an executive car that does weddings and airport runs and had agreed the price without asking us.

I plan on complaining to the wedding venue but is there anything else I can do other than feel really pissed off? Sad

If it is who the location have a contract with I think it’s just something you will have to suck up and put down to experience sadly

MsVestibule · 16/02/2018 19:19

I'd definitely complain, but apart from that, I don't really think there's anything else you can do about it. I'd feel really ripped off, too!

Lipniki · 16/02/2018 19:19

Bet that barman is getting a cut from his mates exec car firm.

BestZebbie · 16/02/2018 19:22

.....just to check, but you didn't get into the car booked to take the bride and groom off to their venue, right? :-)

Sadhairdaytoday · 16/02/2018 19:25

If you got the 'taxi' home after a wedding surely that would have been late at night? And so taxis often charge a premium for journeys after 11:30pm?

I would probably expect to pay double or triple what you paid on the way out. So a little over charged but not hugely? How long was the journey out of interest?

MrsMaxwell · 16/02/2018 19:37

No it wasn’t the bridal car Grin

I'd complain too. Most people would assume a taxi/cab is a regular one by default, and not an executive car!

Paperdolly · 16/02/2018 19:51

Trip Advisor comment?

MrsMaxwell · 16/02/2018 19:56

Already done TA Grin

No taxi would ever take a £5 fare at 22:30 on a weekend.

Lipniki · 16/02/2018 20:03

OP says 10:30 at night weeknight not weekend

Madonnasmum · 16/02/2018 20:06

Isn't that illegal? I thought to be a taxi you had to have a taxi licence?
Wouldn't have thought an exec car service would have the right type of licence?

PriaMaicel · 16/02/2018 20:16

OP says 10:30 at night weeknight not weekend

Ah reading fail from me, apologies. I still can't see any taxi luxury or not wanting to do a £5 fare at 22:30 even on a weekday

MrsMaxwell · 16/02/2018 20:18

Yes - the whole point is we didn’t order a “luxury taxi”.

OP posts:
Sirzy · 16/02/2018 20:18

That must depend on location, I have used taxis at 2330 before now and it only been around £5 for the journey

Madonnasmum · 16/02/2018 21:22

It's not until after midnight that a higher fare kicks in here. Not 10.30!
You've been had for sure. I'd call trading standards. You should have been made aware of the charge up front as it's higher than a normal taxi.

Snowysky20009 · 17/02/2018 11:44

Did they have a contract with them?
