DP is convinced this is why I get ill.

Thoughts?

I'll be sharing responses with him

You might melt if it rains

hidinginthenightgarden · 16/02/2018 18:51

I do it all the time. I am so rarely ill I sometimes feel I am missing out on duvet days!

Trills · 16/02/2018 18:51

No, why would it?

grumpy4squash · 16/02/2018 18:51

Of course it doesn't. Unless you wash it in contaminated water and swallow some.

maskingtape · 16/02/2018 18:52

Of course not!

Seniorcitizen1 · 16/02/2018 18:52

My Nanan used to tell me this - never got ill

Aquamarine1029 · 16/02/2018 18:53

Is this a serious question? No. Wet hair will not make you or any other person on the planet sick.

Trills · 16/02/2018 18:54

It might give you a chilly head.

Pantah630 · 16/02/2018 18:56

Every morning for the last 35+ years I've left the house with wet hair, still appear to be more healthy than my mates. Wink

nuttyknitter · 16/02/2018 18:58

It's an old wives tale.

RoidsOfDoom · 16/02/2018 18:58

My mil is full of these old wives tales. Some are funny, some are downright annoying.

Mrsknackered · 16/02/2018 18:59

Yes, my DGM used to tell me this too. She also said going to bed with wet hair gave you neck ache? Anyone ever heard that one?

I've got some sort of virus thing - as does DS2 - and apparently it's because I always leave the house with wet hair according to Dr Knackered.

I go out with wet hair most mornings. In winter it freezes. Still no ill effects.

Anymajordude · 16/02/2018 19:04

It doesn't make you ill although I think your body being colder may find it harder to fight off germs.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 16/02/2018 19:12

Its an old wives tale. I much prefer showers in the morning and go out at 7am with wet hair and I get a cold maybe 2/3 tim3s a year if that. But then It may also depend on your immune system.

crackerjacket · 16/02/2018 19:14

I don't think it can do you any good?

NewMinouMinou · 16/02/2018 19:14

When I were a lass, my wet hair would freeze on the way back to school from swimming lessons.

It’s fine. I think there’s an enhanced chance of contracting a cold/flu if your nose is significantly colder than your core temp because that’s the way the virus rolls, but the virus has to be there in the first place.

^

Still, it can't be pleasant, having a frozen head.

Ratonastick · 16/02/2018 19:19

I used to have an Italian boyfriend who was utterly horrified when I went out with wet hair. As far as I could tell he thought I was courting something slightly worse and more infectious than the plague. His mother was also scandalised as it is, apparently, the sign of a scarlet woman.

Absolutely no bloody idea what they were thinking.

ElBandito · 16/02/2018 19:19

Being cold doesn’t give you a cold.
BUT getting cold when you have a cold or you are coming down with something can make it worse.
Also if you are cold you may be more likely to catch something as it is thought the lining of the nostrils that help filter out germs works best at a warmer temperature.

NewMinouMinou · 16/02/2018 19:24

Ratonastick - I once was berated by a friend’s elderly Portuguese grandmother...
20C day, but....
The front and back doors of the house were open, causing a through draught, and...
...sixmonth-old DD DID NOT HAVE A CARDIGAN ON.

DID I NOT REALISE HOW DANGEROUS THIS WAS?!?!

Laiste · 16/02/2018 19:27

No.

But 12 hours driving a digger through rain and snow gives you tonsilitis.

:(

twojumpingbeans · 16/02/2018 19:35

As a student I lived in Russia for a bit, the one time I did go out with wet hair I was very poorly for ages afterwards. Coincidence? I don't think so...

Tangfastics · 16/02/2018 19:43

Well I guess it depends on the temp surely?

I'm not sure it is certain to make you ill but having your wet hair freeze is really not good for it!

Last month it was insanely cold here - minus 37 with wind chill - and I don't fancy having my hair breaking off thanks!
