I'm at my wits end - we've done 4 treatments in as many weeks and they are still creeping in ds hair. Every time we've treated , we've treated the whole family, changed bed clothes , I've text his best friend parents to warn them he's had nits hoping they would do a thorough check. I told the school who sent out an e mail about nits in the school. What else can I do?! Praying you all have a miracle cure!

Have you tried different types of treatments or the same thing 4 times? Have you also used a nitty gritty comb after treatments to remove all the lice, eggs and nits? And checked every couple of days just using conditioner and nitty gritty comb? Maybe ask his friend's parents more directly to check/ treat just in case they are passing back and forth. You really have to be thorough with the treatment and combing through... Good luck!

Nit Combing with conditioner. Keep repeating.

I did hear on Google about oil on hair overnight to suffocate live ones then combing for the eggs and then repeating regularly in case any had managed to make it through and hatch..

Find out about the life cycle and bear it in mind when recombing.

We had this a few weeks ago. I didn't use any special lice shampoo just put conditioner on wet hair and combed through until no more lice. I repeated every day or so for the first week and then every 2 or 3 days.
I've read you need to keep doing it for 3 weeks after the last lice is found. It feels like they will never go but keep at it.

Ps use cheap conditioner as you won't want to use it again as it will remind you of head lice!

We were plagued over Christmas

Loads of conditioner
Section hair into fours
Comb through for about 5 minutes per section - repeat every time you wash pref every other day
Use a v
Conditioning spray before combing in morning but put drops of tea tree oil in the bottle as lice don't like it

We've also taken to using hair oil/serum as the lice can't hold on!

Nitty gritty comb is essential.

We used the mousse you leave in overnight and wash off the next day, then repeat as directed.
In between I was using the nitty gritty comb/conditioner through hair every other day. With all 3 kids and myself! And I took a loooooong time going through each child to make sure there was nothing more I could remove. I must have spent 1 1/2 hours nit combing every other day/3rd day for a few weeks. Then gradually increased the amount of time between nit combing sessions...if I found one or 2 I didn't bother with another treatment, I just combed again 2 days later and checked everyone including myself.

I poured melted coconut oil on my DS’ head. He has mixed raced afro hair so the nitty gritty comb didn’t work for him. Then sectioned it and combed it through with an Afro comb. Then Hedrin. It got rid of the fuckers and conditioned his hair too Grin

Actually don’t know why I’m grinning. It was not an enjoyable time 😒

DisneylandDreams · 16/02/2018 03:57

Ivebeenaroundtheblock · 16/02/2018 04:12

Nits don't live long once off the head so it's unlikely to be clothes or bedding.

Nitty Gritty comb, conditioner and keep doing it.

We didn't find the treatments very effective. Have always been thorough with the comb and it's worked.

DD has very long hair and it's a nightmare. It's been going around at school (and she's year 6!!!) for about 9 months.

We plait her hair, treat regularly, comb through and they still seem to get through sometimes.

School won't tackle it with any more than a "there are nits in your child's class" SMS. Not allowed to actually speak to the child or parents who they know are bringing it back again and again.
