I think it a great fundraising opp, my mother thinks I would be misleading people as they will assume I will be making a big sacrifice and I wont be.

I think it doesnt matter as long as a) I dont eat any chocolate and b) some money goes to the charity via sponsorship. As an extended family we support BHF for reasons close to our hearts so I know I would get donations.

Well, it IS misleading people, really. But I agree with your points too.

Amanduh · 15/02/2018 19:25

Well collect money or do something else for the BHF then. Yabu. It’s like a testotal doing Dry January. Or a person who isn’t running the marathon being sponsored for a marathon. Totally pointless and yes misleading!

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/02/2018 19:25

It doesnt say that to do it you have to be a chocoholic though does it? Just that you have to not eat any, and I wont!

Could you not give up something else like crisps or social media?

Well I certainly wouldn't sponser you.

Even if you were a chocolate eater, I wouldn't. Why should I pay for you to go on a health kick?

I'd sooner just make a donation.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 15/02/2018 19:40

It implies that you at least do eat chocolate... Confused

Your intentions are good I suppose? But there are so many other relevant causes you could do a sponsor for.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/02/2018 00:42

So I WBU then?

My mum will be happy that you agree with her and I wont do it.

Gekkoforprimeminister · 16/02/2018 00:50

Oh do something proper or just be upfront and ask people if they'd like to make a donation to a charity that's important to you. In all honestly I can't bear these "sponsored" events where people want to be given money for something unspectacular!

toriatoriatoria · 16/02/2018 01:32

I think if you don't eat chocolate it would be unreasonable, as you're not giving up anything/it isn't a challenge for you.

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/02/2018 01:44

Crisps.....crisps would be a major....MAJOR challenge.

I could DeCrisp, would that be ok?

OP posts:
Clandestino · 16/02/2018 06:32

It's very misleading. When I jokingly said I could do some fundraising by going on Dry 2018 people who know me laughed but I could certainly impress others.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/02/2018 06:43

I hate sponsorship events. I support the charities I want to support through monthly dd.

That said, if you want to do it, I would pick something you would find a real.challenge to give up (such as crisps) and explain to people what you're doing and why. But don't expect or pressurise all your friends into giving you money just for not eating crisps.

Skittlesss · 16/02/2018 06:50

Yes, you would be unreasonable. If I sponsored you and then found out that you don't eat chocolate anyway I would be pretty annoyed and feel as though you had misrepresented the whole thing.

Your intentions are good but the whole point of it is that those taking part are giving something up.

Coconutspongexo · 16/02/2018 06:52

Of course YABU.

Earlyup · 16/02/2018 07:06

If I sponsor someone I expect them to do something; generally something that is a challenge.

Either switch it to something you would hate to give up or be honest and just ask that people think about donating to a charity that is important to you.

Notso · 16/02/2018 07:25

I think if you want to support BHF then donate some money yourself or find another way to help them maybe through volunteering.

Glumglowworm · 16/02/2018 07:27

YABU

if you want to support the charity then give them your own money.

Asking people to sponsor you to not do something you don’t do anyway is nonesense and misleading.

If you want sponsorship then do something that is a personal challenge.
