Ok, so I have 2 kids, 11 and 7. One is a wheelchair user, but can walk with crutches if necessary. Able to manage a couple of steps with support but ideally reasonably accessible places please. We live near Chester.

I want to take them away for 4/5 days in the summer.

If we stay in the UK:

Planning on using an air B&b as a base for exploring and days out. Don’t mind up to 4h drive if there is plenty to do. We’ve done London lots of times, and cities like Liverpool and Manchester are easily accessible for a day out, so probably further afield. Also already done Edinburgh, Cardiff and Bristol a few times each.

If we go to Europe, we will fly and use public transport. I don’t want to hire a car.

Where would you go? No real budget. I’m confident travelling alone with them, just need somewhere to go!

Thank you!

Lanzarote is very wheelchair friendly. Transfer from airport very short. We stay in matagorda which is very pedestrianised and flat. I know the Nautilus apartments are also very well equipped for wheelchair users and people with mobility needs. I have stayed at them and they are lovely too.

@crispbutty I’ve never been there before. Is there lots to do locally? We aren’t very beachy...it’s hard to get a wheelchair on sand!

I imagine it will depend what limitations you have but there are lots of things to do that are nearby such as Rancho Texas which is an animal park. The beach itself at matagorda is also very easily accessible if your child can walk a few steps as it is flat and there are built on ramps for pushchairs too. There are four seater bikes for hire too which only require two to pedal which would probably be good fun. It’s a very family friendly area.

There are lots of city breaks for children that age. I'd choose somewhere like Stockholm or Copenhagen if you need wheelchair accessible. Lots of parks, museums, boat trips. Depends on what you like to do on holiday really.
