To ask about your chickenpox experiences?

DS2 woke up this morning with three new spots which looked very chicken poxy to me. Took him to the GP and he’s not sure-said it could be a skin tag virus as he’s not woken up covered in spots, he’s only got the three. He said that if DS wakes up tomorrow covered in spots then it very clearly is chicken pox.

Has anyone’s little one had a few spots which then spread with chicken pox? Or did they all wake up covered and it was an instant-yes that’s chicken pox.

Chicken pox has been running through his nursery recently which makes me think it could be that after all but I’m keen to hear your experiences!

My sons started around mid day with 2 spots, over the next 2 days it gradually spread making them impossible to count.

Yes, I found ONE suspicious spot on DD on the Wednesday, by Thursday afternoon they kept just popping up. She was quite miserable by the whole experience, but by Thursday the week after she was all scabbed over & on the mend! Thankfully before our holiday abroad Shock

My son had 2 on his tummy and one on his genitals when nursery called me lunchtime last Wednesday. By the evening he had a few more and the next day he was covered. They carried on cropping till Friday then that was it. It often starts with a couple.

I caught chicken pox from the two little boys I used to babysit. The parents didn't inform me they were ill. I was 18. It was just before my A-levels. I was extremely ill with it, missed 2 months of school and returned to school the day of my first exam. I failed my A-levels as a result.

My son had chicken pox in December. He literally had 5 spots and no other symptoms. The GP confirmed they were chicken pox though.

He was so lucky. They didn't even itch him! Apparently I was the same when I caught it as a child.

Is it ok to go to the surgery with obvious chicken pox? Are you still contagious with the spots or the period before the spots appear? Or when they’re scabbed over?

Two of mine had chicken pox, one had no more than 20 spots (they were very clearly chicken pox though), the other was covered. Both over and done with within 5 days though, I was surprised how quickly it cleared.

My DS only ever had a very light scattering of spots and was fine in himself, hardly knew he had it. My other two children had more and were quite poorly. Either way they do tend to start off as just a couple then suddenly they seem to start springing up before your eyes! Check round places that aren't obvious too like ears, neck, armpits etc.

My DD had it at 3.5 (caught from nursery), gave it to her younger brother then 18 months, and DP caught it too at the age of 35. The DC shrugged it off but he was nearly hospitalised.

Nursery called me at lunchtime a few months ago on the Tuesday to say DD had CP. They showed me a spot behind one of her ears and one on her genitals. 24 hours later and they were everywhere. Stayed out of Nursery the next week as she was pretty poorly. The spots in her mouth and on her genitals were very painful for her. Piriton at night helped with sleep.

Thanks for all the replies. DS has had more spots pop up in throughout the day, I’m 99% sure it’s the pox!
