To torch the neighbours washing (light hearted)

T1M2N3T4 · 15/02/2018 08:47

New neighbours moved in on Saturday and on Sunday they put their washing out on the line. All good.
Except it's still there now!
It's been sunny, raining, frosty, raining and now its sunny again.
The feckers managed to put the bin out on the right day and take it back again.
Honestly if I hadn't heard the feckers kids running around I would be concerned they were dead.
WIBU to torch it all or shove an Argos catalogue through the door with a book mark on the tumble dryer page at least.

Give them a break! If they've only just moved house there's probably a lot to do.

Have you really got so little going on in your own life, to be bothered by this?

QueenEnid · 15/02/2018 08:52

YANBU. I'd have to wash it all again!

T1M2N3T4 · 15/02/2018 09:01

Purple I did say light hearted in my title Hmm
I'm not one of these how dare they people.
In fact DP and I have been betting on how long it stays. Grin

It's okay OP - my neighbours put some washing last year and it is still on the line 6 months later. The dc have probably out grown all the on the line now.

T1M2N3T4 · 15/02/2018 09:05

Shock are you sure they havnt stealth moved out Muriel?

viques · 15/02/2018 09:11

My neighbour hangs washed sandwich bags on her line, fair enough , she is recycling plastic, but they stay out there for weeks and weeks. Six out there at the moment. Darked on, rained on, snowed on, hailed on, bird pooed on.........

GummyGoddess · 15/02/2018 09:13

My washing has been on the line since Sunday afternoon. Not because I'm waiting for it to dry though. We had a horrendous nappy leak so everything was stained, it's out there because I'm waiting for the sun to finish bleaching it back to white again!

borlottibeans · 15/02/2018 09:13

I used to have a neighbour whose principle was apparently "If you put it out to dry, it stays there until it dries."

No judgement as no skin off my nose, but they also hoovered multiple times a day, and I could never reconcile the two wildly differing levels of clean.

MissClareRemembers · 15/02/2018 09:30

We moved into our new house last year. The previous owners NEVER used the washing line in the whole 5 years they lived here. I know this because my neighbour told how bemused they were to see our washing drying on the line! As if the house could only be owned by non-line dryers!

AnoiaUnstickMyDrawers · 15/02/2018 09:34

I was going to suggest the same Gummy I've had washing on the line for a week because it was both sunny and rainy and perfect for bleaching stains. It did cross my mind that the neighbours might be judging though.

Is it kids clothes OP?

T1M2N3T4 · 15/02/2018 09:52

It's a few kids clothes and a few towels. It never occurred to me that you can bleach clothes on the line. I assume thats whites and paler colours? The clothes are all dark and older kids clothes so not sure if that's the reason.

OP posts:
GummyGoddess · 15/02/2018 10:50

Yes, it's all whites and pales. Darks and colours go inside out so they don't get faded. The marks have almost gone but there's still a faded outline so they need a bit longer.

It's much quicker in the summer but I don't really want to keep throwing away vests (and sleepsuits and sleeping bag and sheets!) when they get grubby, so it's on the line in not great weather now. Plus the rain means I don't have to keep going out to spray the washing myself. I am going to wash it again when it comes back in though.

AnoiaUnstickMyDrawers · 15/02/2018 22:14

OP you have to keep them wet, and you need daylight, direct sun is best but not vital. It's brilliant for getting tomato / food stains out too!

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 16/02/2018 00:45

Six out there at the moment. Darked on, rained on, snowed on, hailed on, bird pooed on.........

Tut Tut!! you forgot the Spider willies.

MyKingdomForBrie · 16/02/2018 00:47

would you not slightly assumed that if they only moved in at the weekend they're busy? Maybe unpacking? Finding things? Putting beds together.

I assume washing - whilst important to have clean clothes - might not be top of their priority list right now? Although, it's clearly high on yours!

shakingmyhead1 · 16/02/2018 04:53

they cant take it in now its been "darked" on

Rejoiner · 16/02/2018 07:18

My DD does this sometimes her washing is on the line for a week, she is busy, disorganised and doesn’t see it as a problem.

Whereas my DH likes to almost watch it dry so he can bring it back in as soon as it’s just dry.

People are different.

Mumteedum · 16/02/2018 07:22

I don't understand why you care? It's washing! If she's taken it in and put another load out what's the difference? Confused

SundaysFunday · 16/02/2018 07:59

Some people haven't read 'lighthearted' in the title

T1M2N3T4 · 16/02/2018 09:26

As I said before it doesn't particularly bother me. I was just curious to the mentality behind it as surely it will need washing again as it will be foisty, bird pooey etc.
Actually been so enlightened by the poster who mentioned sun bleaching im trying it myself today as it's lovely. Ds's stained school shirts with lots of dinner badges. Normally use stain remover but it's never brilliant.

My towels have been on the line all week, they keep getting rained on... no bird poop, but pretty sure they've been humped by a few spiders

T1M2N3T4 · 16/02/2018 10:16

Caviar - give them a shake before you bring them in Shock. Shudder at spiders

@MyKingdomForBrie In this weather it takes as long as it takes! In the summer usually just leave the item on the line for one whole day if it's really bad, and go and spray it with water if I think it's getting a bit dry. Usually only a few hours in summer though.
