To still find Uranus funny at age 47?

Yes I'm puerile, and old enough to know better . DD in Yr5 has been studying the solar system this term and I seem to relish any occasion when I can say: "DH look at Uranus, it's amazing" etc
DH says it was funny the first time but he still smirks.
DS13 thinks it's funny (he would) but DS11 thinks I'm "silly"
AIBU?

Thanks JustVent

I'm not happy about that, though. Poor old Pluto.

JustVent · 14/02/2018 22:03

Oh we have much a giggle about DH’s massive telescope as well.

Well, I giggle, DH isn’t the giggling type. He takes astronomy very seriously

SaucyJack · 14/02/2018 22:04

What's funny about Uranus being a gas giant?

Somtamthai · 14/02/2018 22:07

I can’t help giggling either. I’m teaching the solar system and it’s been a task to remain professional 🤣🤣🤣.

I was at the planetarium once with a friend just us and a little boy with his mum. He obviously knew lots about planets and announced “look how big Uranus is mummy”. OMG I nearly died the mum gave us the dirtiest of looks hahahhaha.

Pluto is still a dwarf planet he has his 4 mates for company so don’t feel too bad 😄

One of the main metro stations in Brussels is called Kunst-Wet. I found that funny every time I went through it (fnar). Uranus is definitely giggle-worthy.

welshcath · 14/02/2018 22:11

I'm a science teacher and snigger every time I say it. It's even funnier because it's a gassy giant.

Check out Kundt's Tube: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kundt's_tube

A class of 6th formers I once had behaved impeccably when I introduced this, despite the grin on my face when I wrote it on the board.

iklboo · 14/02/2018 22:15

I used to work at a place where one of our overseas suppliers was called Willie Koch.

Veronicat · 14/02/2018 22:19

Can I see Uranus tonight? Always has me sniggering.

JustVent · 14/02/2018 22:19

No he wasn’t!! 😮

cablewable · 14/02/2018 22:22

My 4 year old daughter is learning to spell and was playing with a farmyard sounds book.... she then spent the next however long trying to spell cock a doodle doo.

IHeartKingThistle · 14/02/2018 22:29

There's a great Uranus gag in one of the Harry Potter books when they're in Divination class - Lavender Brown says she's spotted Uranus on her star chart, Ron shouts over 'Hey Lavender, can I have a look at Uranus?' and Trelawney gives him extra homework Grin

Not my favourite HP innuendo though. That is when Ollivander checks the wands before the Triwizard Tournament and asks Cedric if he takes care of his wand. ' ' " Polished it last night," said Cedric, grinning.'

Sorry for for geeking on your thread OP!

SaucyJack · 14/02/2018 23:02

Have you seen this King Thistle?

SaturnUranus · 14/02/2018 23:17

YANBU Grin

Thehogfather · 14/02/2018 23:17

Yadnbu. Dd and I expanded on it when she did space, with lots of comments about whether Uranus mooned or had a ring.

Also the new way can be sniggered at too, just pronounce it urine-us

RubberJohnny · 15/02/2018 08:32

@SaturnUranus, you heard it here first!

TheNaze73 · 15/02/2018 08:34

YANBU.

It’s jokes & always will be.

RubberJohnny · 15/02/2018 08:35

Or not on a quick name search in advanced!

RubberJohnny · 15/02/2018 08:36

Makes me chuckle like the centurions in Life of Brian in the lispy Caesar scene with his mate Biggus Dickkus!

ErinSophia · 15/02/2018 08:45

My DD was watching a tv programme I used to watch when I was a child (Angela Anaconda) the other day, the kids in it were at a science museum and one of the kids said to the museum worker 'can I see the rings around Uranus' cue me sniggering like a little child and my 5 year old looking at me weirdly.

SuperBeagle · 15/02/2018 08:45

I particularly like when Stephen Fry pronounces it "urine-us" in the audiobook Mythos, almost as if to make it less funny, but instead just moving the emphasis from anus to urine.

PissedOffNeighbour · 15/02/2018 08:52

YADNBU. Anyone else remember the cricket commentary “ The batsman’s Holding, the Bowler’s Willy”? Grin

RenterNomad · 15/02/2018 09:03

I was in the National Gallery with the DC this week, and DS read out a placard about Venus handing over her son "Anus" to Time. AENEAS!!!! I did laugh, Philistine that I am.

Binkytheslug · 15/02/2018 12:59

Nah, I’m 51 and I still giggle. Rings around Uranus, ‘can I use the telescope to see Uranus? And Mars while I’m at it?’ All these things make me snort.

Strongvegetables · 15/02/2018 13:05

NOPE.

I still titter at spotted dick pudding (titter)
