To think that some people in Yorkshire have surprisingly weak handshakes?

Three people recently have given me the weakest handshakes. Its not just that they didn't give a little squeeze but they didn't even use their own muscles to maintain the shape of their hand or support its weight. This has only ever happened to me in Yorkshire. AIBU to think that its specific to Yorkshire or has this happened to you in other parts of the UK?

It’s because we are keen to go back to clutching our wallets and we’re worried that the ferret might escape from our trouser legs if we don’t hold on to it. Grin

Sparklesocks · 13/02/2018 22:31

Is this a major issue for you?

Ancientmummyofwooooos · 13/02/2018 22:33

We dont grasp too firm as we value hands for lambing and hoying bales.

Huntinginthedark · 13/02/2018 22:38

Less sun means a vit D deficiency
Ergo weak handshakes
Known FACT

BeesAndChiscuits · 13/02/2018 22:42

It’s because we know folk not from Yorkshire might crumble into nowt if we used proper grip.

PhilODox · 13/02/2018 22:42

I'm Lancastrian, I have a very strong handshake.
But I don't shake hands with Yorkists, naturally.

ChinkChink · 13/02/2018 22:53

I'm from Yorkshire and have worn out my grip facility due to years of rhubarb hoiking.

Not that I'd want to shake hands with the likes of ye, mind.

ADayGivingMeHope · 13/02/2018 22:55

Yorkshire is huge.
HmmBiscuit

ConferencePear · 13/02/2018 22:58

I think it's because they are concentrating on their pronunciation of "Ee bah gum".

LemonysSnicket · 13/02/2018 23:00

Non Yorkshire folk are delicate little souls so we don’t want to hurt the poor things.

Dobbythesockelf · 13/02/2018 23:02

It's true, your not allowed to leave school until you can prove how weak your handshake is.....Hmm
In reality all Yorkshire people I know (My family and friends as I grew up there) have strong handshakes but I'm from strong farming stock so it might be that. No stronger handshakes than a group of farmers meeting on market day.

Yorkshire men are good on manly hugging with a couple of shoulder slaps mixed in for good measure, non of your southern air kissing.
Seriously though they were probably worried they break you .

CassandraCross · 13/02/2018 23:40

Ah yes the manly shoulder slap that can you send you clarting across the room/field/pub if you are of soft southern stock.

MexicanBob · 13/02/2018 23:58

They're trying to find out if you're a mason?

Estellanpip · 14/02/2018 00:25

Which Yorkshire? There are four different counties.
Pathetic, ridiculous thread. Usual bollocks.

LightDrizzle · 14/02/2018 00:56

By the time we’re in our early twenties, our hands are riddled with the arthritis; from hewing coal (South Yorks), gutting fish fresh off the ice chips (East Yorks) or dry stone walling in all weathers (North Yorks).

halfwitpicker · 14/02/2018 00:59

It's because of all the whankin they do

TroubledTribble28 · 14/02/2018 01:01

There's 3 Yorkshire folk living here in my spot of Wales and I know it's probably 'positive discrimination' but they're so unbendingly friendly, civil and neighbourly. The Welsh shop owner next to them is a twat.

dieselKiller · 14/02/2018 08:54

Oh sorry!!! I just checked the map and it turns out I was in Cumbria if that makes any difference?!?!?

OP posts:
spanieleyes · 14/02/2018 09:04

Oh, Cumbria, you should have said.
It's all the sheep there that causes the problem!

LadyLannister · 14/02/2018 09:06

We don't like shaking hands in Yorkshire, bit too formal for us common folk Smile

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 14/02/2018 11:21

Yorkshire folk suffer from Yorkshire Wrist, brought on by the repetitive strain motion of sifting through gravel to find a scrap of bread to feed to their racing pigeons. It's sometimes treated by rubbing the area with solid lard and ground up steel crucibles.

You won't find it anywhere else in the world. Although people from Herefordshire blink slowly.

SilverySurfer · 14/02/2018 11:25

And some don't Hmm
