I've pretty much exhausted my tutor's ear on this now and need to urgently choose my thesis. I'm struggling to make the connection between the things I'm supposed to be writing about though.

The theme is Miscarriages of Justice, both in terms of being wrongly found guilty of a crime and also wrongly accused of a crime, and how it is need of an update.

The events I am to write about are a case in which a man was convicted for murder but it was later overturned, he was released but with no support as he didn't fit the bill for compensation, and Hillsborough with the vilification of the fans who were wrongly accused of being the cause of the disaster.

These two things seem very difficult to bring together. Am I missing something obvious here?

I would go back and pick something else tbh. This are two topics that would be very difficult to do justice to and link together. And candidly I think it would be very challenging to do to a very high standard which should be the aim.

hi
sorry if this answer isn't technical enough

there is plenty of scope to link these situations i m h o

with the wrongful conviction it demonstrates the failure of the justice system to achieve what it was established to do. there are ample other cases that can be referred to to prove that this was not an isolated failure. you may need to find the specifics on why the conviction was wrong and in particular if it was due to police failures to disclose evidence

this can lead to discussion on recent cases involving rapes and police failures

police failure was the subject of a 27 year plus investigation after the hillsborough disaster. the early conclusions were that police errors and omissions contributed to the incident and were covered up

one of the purposes of the justice system was so that all can have fair representation and that there is no bias towards wealth or establishment

but as the examples illustrate the, "ordinary woman or man," has been failed by the system when the actors of the establishment e.g. the police appear to be unscathed.

both also indicate the time lags in failures of the system and true results. In the meantime between these dates as can be evidenced by other miscarriages the system has created innocent victims

it is therefore in need of overhaul
