Oh I so hope loads of other people come on here and tell my their 4 year does this too -- but I dare say they won't.

My dreamy 4yo dd has gone through spates of this. She does it a few times in a day and then everything is fine again. She can't stand missing anything so waits until too late. I often end up running her off to toilet at high speed.

I feel the same way, she should know better so I secretly think YANBU but really looking at the evidence clearly YABU but are no longer alone.

thanks everyone for your advice, not that I answered this old thread for that reason!!! isn't that funny - I searched for "4 year old wet pants" and didn't check the date,I was so relieved to find the thread (stupidly thought MN would have deleted old threads ..)I was so relieved to find someone else in the same position as me!! (though obv the op's daughter is now 6...!)

Didn't realise this was so old, I had to check it wasn't me that posted it as my DD1 would have been that age at the time.
Though she is 6 now and I'm trying unsuccessfully for her to be dry at night!

Gentle - I'm probably being really thick here, but what did you talk about next??

DD is just turned 4 and keeps on waiting to go til the very last minute (with hideous consequences) - have had her checked for UTIs and nothing, keep reminding her to go, but she will insist she doesn't need to until sudden panic and - whoops!

So please, if you can, elaborate?

Ta!

Put her back in a nappy, at least at home if you're concerned friends at nursery will laugh. She obviously isn't toilet trained. I don't get parents who let the kids wet the bed every night either, if they're young just stick them in a nappy at night until old enough for pad and buzzer medication etc. Some kids oilet train later than others. Nappies are for kids who aren't toilet trained.

My son (now 6) was dreadful at potty training. His problem was / is that he doesn't have that much muscle control in the right area, but crucially, too small a bladder. He's been seen at an enuresis clinic recently and he had to drink lots during the day, stopping at tea time. Nothing fizzy, no "dark drinks" (cranberry, ribena etc), just juice milk and squash. Regular drinks and telling him to wait just a couple of minutes - incentivised by a small toothbrushing clock - has had the desired effect and he is now tight as a drum during the day and getting much better at night. However, this only works if that's their problem - physical incapacity. Bloody minded is harder to deal with and as mum you are the only one who knows how to successfully overcome that! My daughter, bless her, has been fabulous in this respect apart from a problem with bowel control which has now been sorted by a dietary supplement - bowel problems can cause wee problems so if there is a link, use a fibre and combined pre/probiotic to help them get over it.
