Please excuse my ignorance, I’m sure there’s a reason why they’re not striking.

But they have very well established unions and really shit working conditions.

Because legally we can only strike about pay, not the cuts so it comes across on the media that we are being selfish and striking for personal gain.

  • Because striking just hurts the people they are there for - the students...

... Pisses off the people with the voting power - the parents

... Just makes the politicians more determined to "break" the skiving, don't know what hard work is, bunch of slacking incompetent skivers. *

This. I'm a teacher.

Bold fail

A strike has to have a clear, achievable, purpose .....
what would that purpose be (in one sentence) ?

@BG2015

Yes, your pension ends up being less if you strike.

Under the final salary scheme this only affected members in their final year (at our school they were never asked to strike).

Anyone on the career average scheme will loose a day's pensionable pay for that year which will impact on that year's pension.

Because striking solves nothing sadly and instead of support from parents, there's always some jn the press talking about how inconvenient it was their 15 year old had to be at home.And then someone brings up the holidays for a dig.

Yup-agree about the holidays. Usually in a ‘let’s fine the teachers for taking a day off playing at striking during term time, like they fine us when we take our kids out of school on holiday!’

Totally failing to appreciate that most teachers couldn’t give a toss about the bloody attendance statistics and holiday fines and that it really wasn’t their idea in the first place.
