I have an interview on Friday for a job I really want but I'm rubbish at interviews and "selling myself" so please help me to nail it this time. It's a similar role to my current one, administration for new UK office of a US based maker/seller of a technical product.

I'm shocked no-one seems to think the old 'strengths and weaknesses' question is old hat and not really telling the interviewer anything about the interviewee other than they can (Google how to) answer a stock question with a stock acceptable response. If it's been on The Office it's probably time for a new set of questions, interviewers! Good luck though OP

Asia it went well I think, nice informal "chatty" interview rather than a grilling. No tricky questions just an exploration of what I've done in the past, why I looking to change jobs. No idea if I have it or not - they still had candidates to see so it's a waiting game! I used some of the "killer questions" at the end and my DH has just come home picked up my notes and said "good prep, can I borrow this?" as he has an interview next week.

Just had the "Thanks but no thanks" email. Thanks for all your help - hopeful it will help in any future interviews but part time roles on reasonable money are like hen teeth around here so there isn't much to apply for.

For the type of role you are going for I would be looking for someone who understands that it's important to be a team player. That you are there to provide efficient and personable support services to the rest of the business. I'd be looking for you to have done your homework ana have gained an understanding of what the business does and it's key functions - sales, customer support etc.

I really wouldn't say things like 'my excel skills are rusty' as suggested up thread. That gives them a reason to choose someone else. Be positive about what you do well and clearly outline why you would be a great choice for this role, in their business

Really sorry to hear you didn't get it Grumble.

Try not to let it get you down, the right job will be out there and you're one step closer to getting it.

I'm sure you nailed the interview, perhaps you could ask for some feedback?

CremeBrulee · 21/02/2018 21:12

Sorry didn't see your update before I posted! Bad luck, use it as a trial run for the next one.

GrumbleBumble · 21/02/2018 21:41

I have replied to the email thanking them for seeing me and asking for feedback.
