AIBU?

To think it's quite hard to find proof of address these days

Because nobody has paper bills?

New letting agency want proof of address from the last three months, they've stated something like a mobile phone bill or bank statement.

But DH and I do all of our billing online, surely most people do these days.

Apparently my driving license isn't a valid proof of address either, it has to be a bill.

We came a cropper when DH needed to hire a car. I'm on pretty much all the bills and the council tax one is no good if it's older than 3mo.

Now, we have monthly bank statements sent to us and when we got a credit card, it was in DH's name (we also have monthly statements sent to us from that). Basically, I make sure we have two things each that come to us monthly. Annoying but I'm finding more places want to see originals, not printed copies.

Doesn't help when you're in the situation, but we're sorted now.

If you are in UK the valid driving licence is pink with photo I'd and looks like a credit card. They are valid for 10 years. Green paper version no longer valid. Also need s to be in your current address.

But the pink paper versions without photos are still valid, as long as your address is still current. I still have one as I have not moved in over twenty years!

Yeah, the paper ones are still valid. I refuse to pay good money that I don't have just to 'update' my driving licence to a photo one (that I would also have to pay to renew every ten years). All my details are still the same...

As I found out from experience, you cannot just print a off a statement, you must go into a branch and ask them to print one off and then they stamp it to verify it is correct, else you could just print off anyone's statement. A statement you print off is usually a different lay out to one a bank would send out.

What about a payslip or a letter from HMRC or anything in regards to voting/electoral roll?

Worse case is old people and photo id they often dont drive or have a valid passport!

Like my brother, who isn't old but does not have a passport or DL. It isn't legal requirement to have either of those documents, but it is difficult to function sometimes without them.
