Fatty lump or lymphoma... AIBU to shit myself

So on Thursday I sprouted a second face underneath my face! It's on the left hand side of my face under my jaw about the size of a golf ball.

It hurts a bit but nothing massive- but it's huge it has its own postcode and came from no where.

So I went to the GP on Friday and they prodded around and asked a few questions and said it might be a fatty lump (!) But because I fit certain criteria I've been put on the oncology pathway. I tick ✅

-random fevers (38.8 every night)

  • night sweats
  • itchiness at night
  • breathlessness
  • tiredness

My questions are;

What does a fatty lump feel like compared to lymphoma?

Is lymphoma a really bad diagnosis? They said it was very treatable with chemo. But yesterday I got a phone call from
The gp (they work weekends here- poor bastards) and I have a fine needle biopsy tomorrow morning rushed through.

I'm actually shitting myself. DH is a dr do I tell him? I mentioned the lump I mean he can clearly see it for himself!

Go on to the Macmillan website. They have a forum on there where you can chat and get information and speak to specialist nurses. There is s lymphoma forum on there so you can find out specific info to do with this

I had this exact thing including night sweats. A fine needle biopsy showed "foreign material"?! in the lymph node. No need for an operation unless I wanted it removed for aesthetic reasons.

The night sweats, I think, were related to breastfeeding and hormone changes.

The week's wait for test results was dreadful, but worth the wait. Good luck.

Hi op, lymph nodes are normally firm and rubbery. You need a core biopsy ideally as FNAs are often inconclusive. The radiologist doing the biopsy should know that though. I hope all is ok, can’t imagine how worried you are.

Chipsandchicken · 12/02/2018 18:21

How did you get on today op??

DontOpenDeadInside · 12/02/2018 18:41

Hope all goes well for you op. I have numerous fatty lumps on my body the doctor has dismissed as nothing can be done. But more keep popping up (picture gremlins Grin ) and I don't want to bother the doctor each time so terrified I'll miss an actual lymphoma.

Why is your DH angry??

Haggisfish · 12/02/2018 18:51

I think because op hadn’t told him. Hope you’re ok op.

Haudyerwheesht · 12/02/2018 18:58

Hope all is ok

mumpelstiltskin · 12/02/2018 19:04

He was angry that I hadn't told him.

Biopsy done they did a couple or at least it felt like it!! They'll be in touch re a clinic appointment soon. Now it's a waiting game

Anger isn’t what you need. Support, understanding and sympathy.

I hope he’s giving you those as well.

Sandyfeet101 · 12/02/2018 19:19

I really hope it turns out to be nothing serious, but just wanted to share my experience. My partner was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in Feb 2014 aged 34. He started chemo every 2 weeks immediately and was in remission by May. He finished the course of chemo in July 2014 and all has been well since. (Fingers crossed). Good luck with your results, I hope you son’t have to wait long.

divadee · 12/02/2018 19:31

I had this a few years ago. I had the night sweats, itchiness and a massive lump in my neck. I had the lymph node removed for a biopsy (that way they check the whole node not just the bit they take out) and it was totally normal. They still don't know what caused it. So don't panic! And if it is something nasty they can do amazing treatments.

travelmonster · 22/02/2018 18:23

Thinking of you, OP. How are things?

Chipsandchicken · 05/03/2018 14:06

How you doing now op??

catsatonthemat · 05/03/2018 14:12

I hope all is OK OP? I wonder if it wasn't a lymphoma but a vascular problem?

Willyoujustbequiet · 05/03/2018 16:32

Have you had your thyroid tested? I had all those symptoms and it turned out to be an overactive thyroid.
