Downsizing from large house with lots of ground which was great when kids little but now drives me insane . I am not a garderner ! However have found a sweet little cottage just big enough but has no garden. Do you live in a flat or house with no garden - how do you feel about it ?

"I’d be utterly miserable without a garden."

So would I. It would be a deal breaker for me.

We were in London a couple of summers ago and I found it so depressing going past loads of high rise flats with no outside green spaces. The weather was gorgeous and I felt sorry for the people living in those flats.

I love being outside in nice weather - just pottering or reading a book. And I always hang my washing outside on dry days.

You don't need one as such, but it's good for the soul

there is a shared garden here but it is a pain in the ass to get down the stairs to sit in it.

would love even a bit of terrace to sit out in.

Someone was trying to persuade me to buy a (cheap and very small) flat. I said 'where would I hang the washing out?' and he replied 'with the money you save, you'll be able to afford a tumble drier!'

Is it just me, or is that missing the point hugely? I love the smell of outdoor dried washing and can't imagine never having it again!

I was never into gardening. My mum was a big gardener as was my ex. I lived in two different houses with my ex, both had gardens, which she maintained. When we split, I knew I'd be heading into a flat not a house and the lack of garden didn't bother me.

Except the first flat I saw I bought. Ground floor, owned outright, no lease, no maintenance, no ground rent. Own garden. With conservatory. South facing, so veritable sun trap. The garden was a mess, but my mum and dad gave me a hand. Levelled it, put a decent sized patio area in, seating, new lawn, gravel path, three borders. It's actually larger than the garden my ex and I had in our three bed house.

Doesn't take huge amount of upkeep. I don't actually spend huge amounts of time out there in the summer but there is no way I'd be without some outdoor space of my own now.

I have a small yard. I would absolutely love a proper garden though. There is just enough space to hang some washing and have a little take and chairs out there.

DS would love a proper garden, but we make sure we go to the park lots.
