My son is two days into having chicken pox, we're due to fly to Bora Bora on Wednesday!!!!!
Should we try and get on the flight?? It's a been booked for a year and cost a small fortune!!! We have two other children who have already had the pox. Will he still be contagious by Wednesday?!Sad

You can certainly have your shingles activated by chicken pox. You can also have a shingles reaction if you've never had one before because you are exposed to chicken pox.

Because there currently isnt not proven that the protection is life long and therefore may lead to adults, who think they are immune, exposing themselves to and getting CP as adults when it is a far more serious illness.

However if they've been vaccinated against CP they are unlikely to get a severe dose of CP even as adults.

OTOH if they haven't been vaccinated, and they get CP as adults, it is likely to be severe.

Not much gives me rage but people who go out in public with contagious diseases make me want to punch something.

Just to clarify some incorrect comments, you can catch chicken pox from shingles, but not vice versa. Shingles is a reactivation of someone's chicken pox virus, you don't get it from exposure to chicken pox. I got chicken pox at age 14 as dad got shingles.
What was your decision OP?

YABU! He'd infect other passengers in the immediate vicinity.

Terrible timing, so sorry about your holiday but you def can’t fly. To give it from a slightly diff perspective, if you did go and all was fine for you on the flight and holiday then great. BUT think of all the others who might develop chicken pox whilst on their holidays resulting in them being stranded and unable to fly home, having to cover costs either thru their insurance or if not covered they could rack up bills in the thousands.
My DD1 had a chicken pox scare last year when we were abroad, the effort to sort out flight changes, remaining in the hotel/finding accommodation, covering food costs etc. Not to mention by DH had to be home for Work leaving me stranded with a 14 month old with chicken pox in a foreign country.
It’s not fair to ruin other people’s holidays and cause all those issues.
The airlines are very understanding and would change happily. Hotels required insurance.
Sorry it’s not great for You but apart from your sadness over the holiday think of the others who could have their holidays ruined on top of getting a very serious disease if pregnant or elderly or other kids.

It takes 14+ days to come down with cp so most people would not still ne on holiday.
Contact with cp is thought to protect against shingles.

Contact with cp is thought to protect against shingles.

That's been debunked.
