I have 4dcs, two of them teenagers and an 11 and 6 year old, not a lot of money, and the weather is awful here, I don't know what to do to entertain them!
Any ideas?

Movie days!! Cheap cinema. Sweet fa. I love half terms! It's summer which is the bitch!!

JuneFromBethesda · 10/02/2018 18:09

I had the same thought today OP. This is the worst half-term - in the summer term it's easy, and in October the days are still fairly long, and the weather usually not too awful.

This time of year is shit. I have cabin fever from being indoors too long. We went for a long walk with the dog but it was too cold and that made me grumpy too Angry My husband is spending most of the weekend out watching rugby and I'm trying to think of things to do with the kids that don't cost too much or involve hours of screen time ...

Boredom is absolutely fineGrin. I only have 1 DS(15) so appreciate it's a bit different. However I work full-time and DH is away this coming week, I will be at home (holiday) 3 days only. Apart from dentist, orthodontist and car service (and 2 days at work when DS will be home alone) I have nothing planned.

Starlight2345 · 10/02/2018 18:12

We aren’t in half term for another week . Today though with my 10 year old . We have played on wii, played upwords . He cleaned bathroom while I cleaned kitchen , he watched Tv while I made curry. I did a load of washing and now we are sat watching Tv . It has cost nothing

Tarraleaha · 10/02/2018 18:14

I agree, a week is too short!

Still time to go to museum/ libraries
swimming
trampolining
teens can take the youngest ones to soft play and you sit down for a coffee
geocaching
Plan a disco for Thursday afternoon (not really workable in a flat)
in garage, playroom or living room
A sleepover
a make-your-own pizza party/ pancake party

You only need to plan 2 or 3 days at the most, and everybody chills -tidies up-- the rest of the week, it flies by

Branleuse · 10/02/2018 18:19

quite a cheap time of year to go away though

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 10/02/2018 18:19

Because it’s a crap time of year and everyone is almost skint other than celebrating my Nan’s birthday we pretty much stay at home in the feb half term. You can find stuff to do and obviously the weather isn’t very giving

orangewasp · 10/02/2018 18:20

You're not entertainments manager at Butlins - let them crack on with being bored, it will allow them to develop their inner landscapes Grin

user1471459936 · 10/02/2018 18:22

Take them trail running / mountain biking / swimming in the morning. Then they will be grateful of a relaxed (boring) afternoon.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 10/02/2018 18:23

Count yourselves lucky - when I went to school we had a Friday and Monday as half-term and that was it! A week is much too long at this time of the year.

Twinkie1 · 10/02/2018 18:25

7 of us are going to the cinema for £21 on Wednesday, the Movies for Juniors. Is there anything like that near you, popcorn and treats from pound shop and it's not too expensive.

BlindLemonAlley · 10/02/2018 18:30

Enjoy the downtime, life is so busy and overscheduled it’s good just to do very little especially in this weather. We are mostly doing a homework this half term, thank you so much teachers Angry

brizzledrizzle · 10/02/2018 18:31

The teenagers can entertain themselves and the 11 and 6 year old can do stuff together, you don't have to entertain them.

Annabelle4 · 10/02/2018 18:35

Long walk.
Give them a bag each to clear out their bedrooms.

ilovesooty · 10/02/2018 18:36

It's your holiday as much as theirs. If the older ones want money to entertain themselves let them do extra chores to earn it.

My primary school used to have just 2 days for February half term and then 2 weeks in May (a week in October). It worked well as you had more time when the weather was better. Would work well especially in years where Easter is early.

FluffyWuffy100 · 10/02/2018 18:46

Walk / run / bike - tire them out and get out for a few hours when you have a weather gap
Geocaching
Swimming
Trampoline park
Cinema
Lunch out somewhere - Pizza Hut buffet is pretty reasonably priced
Reading
TV
Games console
Home work
Art work
Amusing themselves!

CalcatrippticLego · 10/02/2018 18:47

I agree with whoever said chores are the cure to boredom. I'm sure you've some windows that need cleaning, or washing that needs sorting!

Flomy · 10/02/2018 18:51

Im letting DD have one day off..Shes booked in for childcare the other 4 days. 08.00-18.00. She'll get over it Grin

PumpkinPie2016 · 10/02/2018 19:19

I am a teacher so on half term this week with my four year old who is also on half term from preschool.

We haven't really got much planned but I will enjoy the downtime and not getting up at 6am everyday!

The things I am doing with my son will probably be mostly too young for yours but I have thought about:

A trip to soft play
Library
Local museum (free)
Baking at home
Swimming (son goes free as he has swimming lessons so just me to pay for).
Walk if the weather is ok
Relaxing at home with his toys/a DVD with popcorn.

So lots that is free.

We did the shopping and visited my Nan today and then he played at home while I tidied up Grin

NewImprovedNinja · 10/02/2018 19:26

Our half term is only 2 days so a long week-end basically. Unfortunately, the summer holidays are far too long, 10 weeks.

tinkertailorsoildersailor · 10/02/2018 19:27

I can't wait - ours is in a week's time. I will be 'working' from home so I can spend time with the kids. Mine are a lot younger. We plan to go to 'fun days' at local children's centre, lots of all weather dog walks. and lolling around in PJs. Can't bloody wait!!

AHintOfStyle · 10/02/2018 19:30

We only get 2 days here. Can cope with that Grin

ladystarkers · 10/02/2018 19:34

Teenagers can sort themselves. Youbger ones, park, walks... even if its raining, wrap up! Cooking, make cakes. Watch dvds... popcorn?
