To ask how one sells/auctions a rare board game?

DH has a very rare Doctor Who board game, which we know to be worth £500+.

We don't particularly treasure it and are really strapped for cash atm so have decided to sell it. eBay is the obvious first resort, but we're wondering if we'd be better off going through a 'proper' auctioneer or games specialist.

We know nothing about this world, so are pretty clueless about what we're doing - obviously we don't want to come across as such to professionals!!!

right i sell on ebay and my daughter and her partner run an auction house,
on ebay go into the site search on the top bar for the game you have and if any listings come up go to the side bar and look for completed listings tick this and if any have sold they will come up as a green price,
this will give you an indication of wether its worth paying the ten percent final value fees that ebay charges,

an auction house take the game personally to them and ask for what they think it will sell for, but be warned most of the buyers at auction are dealers who want to buy cheap and sell dear,
so they dont usually offer high bids, look for an auction house that does online sales as you get better prices, and the commission is higher sometimes, 15% and vat on top

You could take it to an auction house for a valuation with a view to selling. If you do that, please ensure you set a reserve price so it won't go for less. Additional charges will be VAT and commission to the auction house - usually between 15 - 25%.

Amazon is another possibility - I don't know for sure but understand their charges are high.

It's too rare for Board Game Geek! It's a game from 1965 called Dalek Oracle.

I’d also try asking on some Dr Who fan forums, that’s who is going to be your market I’d assume. Are you sure of the pricing though? I had a quick google and while it does seem very rare, there are articles/adverts about ones being sold a few years back for around £200ish.

A quick google shows it at about £150 OP. Are you sure its worth that much?

We have auctioned toys through vectis and been pleased. Onlt thing i would say though is its not instant because they wait for the right auction, prepare the catalogue then its a month or so after the auction for the cheque. However, you can be confident you have got what it is worth

Guide price is £150-200. They can fetch around £500.

Tbh DH paid a fiver for it when he was 13 so anything over that is good!

That one on ebay has been on there over and over again at £525 and hasn't sold.

We def want to avoid eBay
