Has anyone else just watched this and thought people could have sorted it themselves instead of ringing the fire brigade or going to A&E?!

Plastic things stuck on head could be cut off carefully with a saw, the baby gate could have been cut well away from the child's leg with a saw and bent.

Ridiculous the NHS is doomed.

I can't believe that people are on this thread bemoaning the lack of common sense when:

  1. common sense would tell you that most parents are able to fix these problems without any assistance.
  2. These parents probably aren't going to be the ones featured on the telly in favour of more eventful stories where emergency services were required
  3. Taking a saw near to a child's head is considered the sensible choice

But, you know, if you have a determined worldview that parents are idiots don't risk that by thinking about things for too long. Confused

I did woodwork at school, I am confident the I could saw something off my child's head if needs be Grin

Good point they'd only used the more dramatic ones in the show that had involved 3 fire engines and 10 firemen to remove a toilet seat from a child's head! But looking at the photos that were sent in I'd say it was uncalled for in most of the cases.

I really don't know how humans have survived for so long.
Grin

Seeing that the average world life expectancy has gone from 31 in 1900 to 71.5 in 2014, I'd say that reducing our saw usage for day-to-day mishaps seems to be the way forward.

I wouldn't recommend stocking on axes either.

3 year olds were too busy working back then to be getting their face stuck in a potty

If your child’s head is stuck right through railings, pick up the child and turn it over, its face will then be facing forward and the ears will no longer be making the head be stuck and you can pull the child out. Better try this before the saw.

I've had 2 children get their knee caught in our stair gate. It's wood effect but made of metal so to cut it would involve a lot of sawing around a hysterical child and I was about to call the fireman first time.

Knee goes through by brute force, then can't get pushed back at risk of dislocation. I'm home alone but both times we twist leg so knee is bent vertically and we manage to push leg back through that way.

Total nightmare and second time I knew there was a trick and I couldn't remember it Grin

Some useful tips here! Hopefully save some children from the trauma of the saw Grin
