AIBU?

To ask you to recommend travel games for 8yo DD?

We're off to the canaries next week for half term and it's looking like the weather will be cooler than we had hoped. The forecast is suggesting temperatures in the high teens and some cloud. Still very pleasant and I'm sure we'll have a good time, but we might not want to sit around the pool all day!

So I'm thinking about taking a few games to play. DD likes Uno, scrabble and card games. Can I ask you what other games you would recommend?

Thanks Smile

Junior Cluedo went down well over Christmas here. You can get children's origami sets which are pretty good if they are patient.

Travel Battleship is a big hit here

Ooh great suggestions. I didn't know there was a monopoly card game, but DD likes the board game so that's sounding like a winner.

A kids quiz book was a real hit for our DD; we take turns asking the questions etc

Butteredparsn1ps · 09/02/2018 09:50

Pass the pigs, dobble, cluedo and Yahtze all on the list too!
I'm hoping WHsmith or John Lewis have these in stock Smile

User a quiz book is a good idea too. She's just getting into that sort of thing.

All great ideas - I knew this was the place to ask Grin

Top trumps is always a favourite in our household.

Have a look at gamewright games - lots of card games, so quite portable and good fun. Sushi Go and Slamwich are favourites with us.

Shut the box is good.
Storycubes, quite fun for imaginative children!

scrappydappydoo · 09/02/2018 09:57

Mad libs - can be quite American but really good fun

Bananagrams is a bit like scrabble but faster and more portable! Lots of fun for playing with different ages as you play your own game rather than one board in the middle.
Dobble is great too. I remember my dad teaching me games with traditional playing cards at that age, things like rummy, sevens, patience - it might be fun to take a deck of cards and a how to play book.

I've bought monopoly and Boggle card games and will take a pack of cards, uno, scrabble and a doodle game that's a bit like Pictionary. Thank should entertain us all! I'm going to look for a quiz book at the airport too.

Thanks for the ideas. Looking forward to a week of games now

How about a Compendium of games like this? Has 10 in one games and usually comes with things like Ludo etc.

If you have pen and paper you could play things like Boy,Girl. Or make those fortune finger games.

beluga425 · 09/02/2018 20:42

Rebeccaslicker · 09/02/2018 20:42

Normally I'd say pass the bomb junior edition but perhaps a bit big for travelling. Brilliant for at home though! Pass the pigs is an excellent call.

Have a fab holiday Smile

I used to like doing Word Searches at that age. Appreciate most 8 year olds don't!
